Real-time insight. Businesses of every kind gain a competitive edge from it, but more important, their very survival depends on it. I’m not just talking about insight from standardized reports, spreadsheets, and any old data. On the contrary, true business insight is obtained from data that you can use the very second it’s created across the entire enterprise and business network. But to run a truly real-time business, businesses must go a step further.

It seems as though everyone is using mobile, analytics, and social media technologies to make decisions and execute transactions at a moment’s notice. And when all of this rich, real-time data is accessible at the exact moment and place it’s needed, we see the full power of real-time business insight.

In-memory computing: The engine that runs real-time insight

Since the introduction of SAP HANA software in 2011, thousands of businesses of all sizes and industries have benefited from the unique in-memory database. They are instantly analyzing huge volumes of data as it’s created - without the complexity of data management and storage. Decision makers are getting answers to questions they never dared ask before. As a result, the whole insight-to-action process is faster and leaner.

There’s no question that this technology is transformational. However, for many companies, the question remains: What’s the best way to deploy this breakthrough in-memory technology? Some choose to bring it in-house. Others decide to go directly to the cloud for the pilot and later move it on-premise after the business case is established. And there are companies who use a hybrid approach to manage the mission-critical production environment on-premise while maintaining test and development systems in the cloud.

Whatever the approach, the goal is the same: To provide flexible options that accelerate time to insight while meeting all business needs. Real-time business is about speed and getting there should be fast. This is where the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service can help.

Here’s a snapshot of two recent clients who decided to use the service to run their businesses better, serve customers more effectively, and drive competitive advantage well into the future. Maybe their stories can help you do the same.

Origin Energy energizes business expansion and transformation

Origin Energy, Australia’s leading integrated energy company, is banking on its Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) division to bring in a substantial portion of its future revenues. To support business expansion plans, Origin LNG decided to transform its business-wide systems to eliminate manual processes. However, in the middle of this initiative named "Project Purple," it was soon clear that the business could not deliver on stakeholder and regulatory expectations on time if it didn’t quickly change its approach.

Enter SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. The deployment velocity of cloud services meant that Origin LNG’s infrastructure timeline could be accelerated while still providing for its platform needs. To facilitate an even faster startup, the service was provisioned prior to contract signing. The project team was able to begin work immediately, rather than wait the traditional 8–10 weeks for system purchase, delivery, and commissioning.

In approximately six weeks, Origin LNG was able to meet their reporting requirements once the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation and SAP Strategy Management applications were deployed with SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.

Nissha makes IT simplification the cornerstone of its success

Nissha, an 85-year old printing technology company in Kyoto, Japan, is a perfect example of companies that move from a capital model to operational expenditure framework. The company is undergoing an ambitious plan to reduce IT assets to zero by transferring work such as IT planning, development, operation, and even platform maintenance to SAP technology. This strategy called for migrating from its existing managed services provider to fully outsourcing its SAP software landscape.

By deploying SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, Nissha is able to deliver the full scope of SAP solutions across the company and to its 2,883 business users. In addition to the physical move, database migrations to both the SAP HANA platform and SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise were performed, as well as significant testing. In total, six SAP solutions were migrated onto seven SAP HANA servers in our Osaka data center.

The power of real time with the simplicity of the cloud

The value of the cloud option for SAP HANA is the ability to jump into a new paradigm that gives access to analysis and insight in real time. But, how do you get started? Cloud transformation services from SAP can help you find the right cloud strategy for your business. These services are designed to accelerate your move to the cloud in five steps: advise, prepare, implement, operate, and expand.
