According to Forrester Research, most organizations use only 12% of the data available to them. Imagine buying a house when you only knew about 12% of the ones available? Or getting a mortgage with the first bank you spoke to?

We’re reticent to make decisions in our personal life without having most of the information…but somehow it’s become acceptable in the enterprise.

More information is available to us now than ever before, and technologies like NoSQL make storing that data:

  • Cheap—New Big Data technologies can run on commodity hardware.
  • Agile—NoSQL databases can handle structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Dependable—New Big Data technologies are highly fault-tolerant because they offer built-in redundancy of both function and data. All nodes are peers and if one goes down the others can carry on.
  • Scalable—If you run out of storage with your NoSQL database, just add another server.

SAP Lumira includes a Data Access Extension API that enables our partners and customers to connect to new and emerging data sources.

Our partner Simba Technologies has leveraged this API to create an extension to deliver direct ODBC access to MongoDB, a leading NoSQL database.

We also have an extension offering a customized data access for MongoDB. You can learn more here.
