New Manufacturing Execution System of International Paper will be based on SAP solutions
While the area of manufacturing has been of highest importance for paper & packaging companies for years, in the past there was no Manufacturing Execution System (MES) offered by SAP which could cover this area for the paper industry (…and you may have heard already that SAP ME is catering more the discrete manufacturing businesses). But in these days for companies who want to perform their enterprise operations and their shop-floor operations on one single platform SAP can offer a number of options.
- SAP partners have created MES systems based on SAP MII (Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence)
- Some others offer MES systems based on NetWeaver, making use of ABAP as development platform.
- Tieto approached this topic using SAP ERP as the platform for their MES solution. This allows for re-use of existing functions originating from ERP applications, but still all SAP infrastructure like ABAP programming, interfacing, etc. can be included.
Now International Paper, a leader in packaging and paper throughout the world, has chosen Tieto’s SAP-based MES to cover all of the production shop floor execution covering the complete Manufacturing-to-Delivery Process. The MES system will initially be rolled out to almost 26 North American sites.
