Backup cycle planning for Oracle database

I recently faced an issue regarding designing a careful approach to backup. If you are planning the backup cycle for your Oracle database and you don’t know how to proceed, check the KBA #2084077 I’ve created.

In such case, firstly you must identify what needs to be backed up, the acceptable restore/recovery time, the required level of availability, the necessary backup type (online, offline, incremental) and so on. You can follow the SAP recommended guidelines or design the backup cycle that you require. Also do not forget to verify backup and database. The mentioned KBA detailed the steps you should take and also contains useful notes/links/hints to take into account.

Hope you like this blog and any comments/suggestions are welcome!

      Hi Biborka ,

It's good you mentioned the DB consistency checks, it's the kind of operation everybody forgets about until discovering how bad it can be to have corruptions in the DB and in all your backup sets.

Maybe you could add a link to the main note about consistency checks.

23345 - Consistency check of ORACLE database

      Hi Yves,

Thank you for your feedback. I have added the note and updated the KBA accordingly.
