SAP BW 7.4 SP8: Advanced DSO: Installation
In my previous blog What’s new in SAP NW BW 7.4 SP8 , I wrote about the Advanced DSO (ADSO) having large potential in the SAP BW modeling landscape. I also wrote about the fact that it unfortunately wasn’t available yet.
Well, now it is.
Update December 2014: installation and configuration manual is now available on SAP First Guidance – Implementing BW-MT for BW-… | SCN
The Advanced DSO is now available for any BW on HANA installation running 7.4 SP8. SAP however makes a clear statement on SP8 usage of the ADSO (i.e. Modeling new scenarios). The installation and preparation of the BW system is more complex and risky than waiting for SP9, and there is a set of functionalities not yet available when running SP8/SP9. These limitations are well-described in SAP note 2070577 – (advanced) DataStore Object – availability in BW7.4 SP08.
Now, since I just want to get my hands on the ADSO and am not running a productive system, I went ahead and asked SAP to provide me with the stuff I need to use the ADSO. First of all, it is important to understand that SAP only supplies the note bundle and installation instructions when specifically asked for them. To do so, check the contact information in the SAP note I just mentioned. SAP will set up support and provide information from that point on.
One important piece of advice: take a backup! Before starting to implement, make sure you have a recent backup or take one before starting.
After doing so, a total of 46 notes is needed to be implemented into the BW system, running UDO programs in between and downloading a number of prerequisite notes for some of the notes required. When implementing these notes, make sure to follow the implementation sequence exactly as instructed.
Next, make sure you enable Dynamic Range Partitioning in HANA according to note 2081135.
After finishing up all activities, you should see the option to create an ADSO in the BW modeling tools in HANA studio. Please note that using the ADSO requires the latest version of the BW Eclipse Modeling Tools, version 1.5.
After creating and configuring the ADSO, it will become visible in the workbench as well.
Finally, a huge thanks to Rainer Hoeltke and Achim Seubert for outstanding support on every small (self-induced ;-)) hiccup I faced in this process!

Now that we have the Document - SAP First Guidance - SAP BW 7.40 SP08 powered by SAP HANA - Implementing BW-MT for BW-aDSO
everything should go much more easier ...
Best Regards Roland
True, and SP09 doesn't hurt either 🙂
I will update the doc with latest info.
Great read.. Indeed, Very helpful... Awesome article.... This is a brilliant way to go.
Hi Van,
I am trying to implement ODP-BW and ODP-SLT functionality as per our business requirement no below mentioned environment.
HANA : 1.00.80.00.391861(NewDB100_REL)
HANA Studio : Version. 1.80.3
BW Server 1 : Release 740 with SP-Level 8
BW Server 2 : Release 740 with SP-Level 4(Embedded BW with ECC)
ECC (With SLT) : Release 740 with SP-Level 4
When I am creating source system in BW under ODP-BW and ODP-SLT I am getting these ODP-BW source system under ODP-SAP(Extractors) and ODP-SLT source system under ODP-Other Contexts folder.
Please could you let us know the configuration and pre-requites or SNOTE(if any) to be implemented to realize ODP-BW and ODP-SLT.

HI Raja,
Please post this question in a discussion. That way, more people will read it, and it will be available through search for people with the same question.
