How Planning Calendar Works
Planning calendar
If we use the planning calendar , the procurement proposals will be created according to the periods defined in the planning calendar which we shown below Planning calendar is use at material level and assign this in MRP2 view along with lot size procedure PK (period lot size according to planning calander)
Ex : If the period start date will be Wednesday in the planning calendar with weekely calculation rule then during MRP run the system will grouped all the requirement which falls under the one week and MRP will create the single proposal on Wednesday for entire week.
Creation of planning calendar with weekly calculation rule
- 1. Created the planning calender with “following working day” with validity (03.01.2014 to 18.06.2015) and selected the calculation rule as weekly with wednesday and friday
Holiday : 15/08/2014
We have defined the planning calender with Wednesday and Friday . It means “ whatever the requirement fall into periods (01.08.2014 to 05.08.2014 and 06.08.2014 to 07.08.2014) ,the system groups together the purchase requisition proposals and give the date of 01.08.2014(friday) and 06.08.2014(wednesday) and form a lot.
Due to the holiday on 15Aug, the system creates periods between 13.08.2014 to 17.08.2014 and 18.08.2014 to 19.08.2014.
This indicator instructs the system to select the next working day instead of holiday(15.08.2014)
Below is the stock/requirement list after the MRP run
- 2. Created the planning calender with “Previous working day” with validity (03.01.2014 to 18.06.2015) and selected the calculation rule as weekly with wednesday and friday
Holiday : 15/08/2014
The system finds the holiday(15.08.2014) and it creates start date on 14.08.2014 which is one day before the holiday as per shown below
- 3. Created the planning calender with “No new Periods” with validity (03.01.2014 to 18.06.2015) and selected the calculation rule as weekly with wednesday and friday
If the period start falls on a day which is holiday(15.08.2014), then the system will not defines the new periods.

Thanks a lot for this document.
There is still a last case that you didn't explain, which would make this a 5-star document:
If we use the option do not displace, it will generate a new period on 15.08 even if it's a holiday. But according to my tests, system still don't create Purchase Orders on 15.08.
So if there is no possible orders on a holiday, what is the real difference between the options no new period and do not displace?
But if it is possible to have orders on a holiday, what are the customizing points or the parameters necessary to make it happen?

Taher.
Thank you for the sharing
Very helpful, thank you!
Please let me kindly ask a follow-up question. Does the Planning calendar schedule according to its periods also planned/production orders (in-house receipts) or only procurement proposals?
Many thanks for you response,
Martin
