Good & informative blog. This will be a great tool for developers. I believe again a game changing product from SAP similar to SAP Gateway.
Few clarifications.
1.is api management 's one of the key feature is security ? SAP already made this possible using SAML,OAuth X509. Is there any specific feature other than the one described above.
Why should we have API Management on top of OData services ?
2.since gateway is lighgweight SAP wants to control the server load balancing via API management ?
Could you give a simple use case comparing SAP Gateway with API management ?
Please bare me if I made simple questions.

Hi Prabaharan,
Thanks for your interest and the good questions. There is an excellent source for you about the new SAP API management solution. We have a SCN community around this solution SAP APIs and API Management There is a FAQ document which has answer to your questions and more. Plus you can find webinar and technical demo about it.
In short: Security is one of the key features of API management, but more than that it is managing the E2E cycle of APIs and large No of OData services, REST, SOAP etc. It provides security and governance, provide scalability, so companies can securely provide APIs to the developer community to use.
SAP Gateway is just one API source for the API management system, PO, HANA, SuccessFactor etc can be others within SAP product family. SAP API management can connect to non-SAP source as well as API providers. So we do not really compare SAP Gateway with API management since they serve quite different purposes.

Someof queries to start with...
1.How & Where do we install/deploy API Management. Is it available as an ABAP-Addon on service market place.
2.Do we have a trial system for developers to evaluate it ?
3.From an ABAP developer we have updated ourselves with Gateway skillsets 🙂 . So is API management another important/essential skillset required to build Enterprise consumer grade apps as the benefits are huge ?
