AmerisourceBergen prices 2 million order line items daily with 99.9995% accuracy!

On September 4th, we hosted a CIO luncheon in Newtown Square.  Jeff Wilkinson, Vice President of Information Delivery of AmerisourceBergen (ABC), delivered an informative presentation on the benefits of a custom solution that ABC built with SAP Custom Development that has tremendously benefited AmerisourceBergen and its customers.  Jeff is responsible for leading the transformation of the enterprise into an information-centric culture that is fully connected, operationally efficient, and capable of deriving quality data to improve business insight.

This drug wholesale giant operates in a highly competitive environment where high volume wholesale distribution companies must be able to respond instantly to large volumes of price and availability requests from customers received from a variety of channels. ABC faced critical challenges in this area resulting in slow response times, lost sales and diminished customer satisfaction.   

ABC addressed these challenges by engaging with SAP in a co-innovation development project for the Pre-Determined Pricing Engine
Solution. This solution:  

  • provides excellent performance for the generation and update of customer catalogs and for the retrieval of catalog product and pricing information. ABC was able to provide up to 300 specific processes in seconds or less in their e-Commerce environment;
  • supply a centrally managed, configurable pricing infrastructure and operational control where ABC reduced their contract rollover processes by 94%; and
  • supports customer-specific product catalog requirements where ABC was able to efficiently extract pricing information and generate the catalogs without having to dynamically calculate 3+ billion price points.

According to Jeff, “ABC needed to have competitive pricing or we would be dead in the water.  Pre-Determined Pricing engine allowed us to price 2 million order line items on a daily basis with accuracy of 99.9995%!”  This value-added dialogue included a number of leading local wholesale distribution companies.  To cap off this interactive session, Rick Knowles, SAP COO, closed with the importance of co-innovation and how SAP is the partner that will enable you to do something different allowing you to have that competitive edge.
