SAP HANA Academy – Application Development on SAP HANA Cloud Platform: Connecting to a Schema Using the Command Line Tool

In a tutorial video Jamie Wiseman from the SAP HANA Academy demonstrates how to connect to a database schema hosted in the SAP HANA Cloud Platform using the command line tool.

As a perquisite for this lesson a user must first followed the steps outline in this video on setting up the Eclipse IDE.

How to Use the Command Line Tool to Connect to a SAP HANA Cloud Platform Schema (1:00 – 4:19)

Enter the directory where the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK is installed. Right click on the tools folder and choose Open command window here. Then enter the command below using your schema name and user name.

After entering your SAP HANA Cloud Platform user password you may encounter a proxy error. To resolve this proxy error follow the steps in the read me file located with your SDK tools in the explorer window.

After setting the correct proxy in the command window copy and paste in the same tunnel syntax used before into the command window. After entering your password you will have successfully tunneled into the SAP HANA Cloud platform.

Also in the read me file is information about how to set up the properties of your proxy.

Back in the command line tool a schema name, user name and temporary password is now displayed. This information is only pertinent for the recently created database schema. The tunnel is only open for 24 hours and if 24 hours passes or the tunnel is closed only the user’s password information will change. A user can only connect to one personal schema at a time in SAP HANA Studio.
