Cloud Service Analyzes Mobile Usage Data

SAP Consumer Insight 365 is a cloud based service, running on a combination of HANA, IQ and Hadoop that captures mobile usage records from telco operators all over the world. This data is a mine of information that can provide very deep insights on consumer behavior by showing where people are, who they are (i.e. their demographics), what they are doing (voice, messaging and web) and how that varies over time in a completely anonymous way  without compromising the privacy of the individual. It also delivers analyses that can be used by market research companies, major brands or any organization where people/consumers are important.

The Big Data Challenge

With just one medium-sized telco operator generating 10-12 billion records every single day, SAP Consumer Insight 365 has one of the biggest “big data” challenges that exists particularly when the users can create and run their own analytic queries in real time. SAP Consumer Insight 365 handles this with a three-level architecture where about month of data is stored in HANA, six months in IQ and up to two years in Hadoop. The same analyses can be run on all three stores, but with different service levels.
