By Rob Leesberg, Director of R&D, Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Runbook

Runbook Company BV has recently completed the readiness assessment for ABAP® programming language–based add-ons to the SAP HANA® platform for their solutions SMART Close and TRUE Reconciliation. Runbook is a leader in technology solutions that simplify the financial close and reporting process for worldwide corporations. With SAP® Business Suite powered by SAP HANA, Runbook recently completed certifications of the ABAP add-on for the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform on SAP HANA for Runbook ONE and TRUE Reconciliation solutions.

Runbook is a longstanding SAP software solution and technology partner and has many years of experience in providing solutions certified for integration with SAP® software. The company offers its customers a user experience reflecting that Runbook technology is built to run on SAP solutions.

The company’s proprietary Runbook ONE platform enables companies to transform and streamline financial processes with automated, rules-based solutions that can improve corporate governance and simplify financial operations while reducing total costs. The platform powers the SMART Close and True Reconciliation solutions, all of which are delivered as add-ons using the ABAP programming language.

TRUE Reconciliation helps streamline the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and improve operational efficiency through template-based, automated reconciliation processes that further ensure that accounts are reconciled in a timely manner based on corporate standards. It also provides corporate finance teams with a centralized dashboard to monitor data consistency and accuracy across accounts, as well as to oversee activities performed by outsourced service providers or at finance shared-services centers.

Runbook solutions not only execute the whole workflow process, but also automatically perform data validation checks at each step in the process before moving to the next task in the workflow.

While the certification of solutions related to ABAP add-ons is mostly focused on safeguarding overall quality, deployment and installation, the readiness assessment service for ABAP add-ons focuses on potential performance gains and online analytical possibilities of SAP HANA by optimizing ABAP coding. Runbook is one of the first companies to make use of this service for its ABAP add-ons for SMART Close and TRUE Reconciliation.

During the assessment service, the ABAP add-ons of Runbook were deployed in a system running SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA, with the most recent release and service pack. Static code checks focused on the performance aspects of SAP HANA, and also looked for problematic code lines. Intensive SQL analyses were performed based on realistic test data. Afterwards, comprehensive assessment reports, listing all the findings and making recommendations and proposals for changes, were handed over to and discussed with the Runbook team. Also part of the assessment service was an overview presentation on SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA, covering, for example, the new ABAP development tools in Eclipse, as well as the new SQL Monitor.

These certifications build upon our long-held relationship with SAP that dates back to 2003. That was when we received the first certification of one of our solutions from SAP. This track record, later bolstered by SAP gold partner status, enables us to closely align our development strategy with that of SAP, helping early adopters of the latest SAP technology to find Runbook solutions compatible with SAP releases. We are delighted with the latest of such milestones for Runbook.
