SaaS is one the three key terms you need to understand before figuring out all about Cloud. How is this word related with our SAP Cloud offerings?. Please keep reading because this is VERY important for you to understand.

The answer: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Easy huh?. Maybe not quite there yet…. What does it really mean?

“Software as a service is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted.”

Applications that can be subscribed are in use in our every day lives and are not uncommon. The SaaS model represents a significant shift in the way companies acquire and consume software applications.

Applications that traditionally may have only been available to large Enterprise companies are now consumable by small-medium businesses.  Rather than paying up-front for large enterprise licenses, companies can effectively subscribe to software on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis for a contracted period of time – on an operating budget as opposed to a depreciated capital budget.

I hope this short description has clarified your anxiousness of not knowing what is the meaning of SaaS. Now you are few steps ahead of hundreds that may be wondering the same question right now.

Thank you Maria! I am very new in this topic and this basic explanation is very helpful to understand the portfolio.

I have some questons about this topic, it would be great if you could help me with them, I copy them below.

Whhen we refer to the market category Cloud, all the products we have are Saas and we have them located in the HANA Cloud which is a PaaS, am I right?

Everything we do in the cloud we do it in the Hana Platform?

Is the Hana Cloud (Paas) is different than the Hana Enterprise Cloud?

    Thank you

    Ana
