What is this about?

Installing an ABAP Add-On is quick and easy. But how to get rid of it?

It requires more that ‘just’ deleting those ABAP programs that were related to the Add-On at installation time. It might be that you installed support packages for the respective Add-On, implemented SAP Notes or did manual corrections. One effect of this might be that content had been generated. In addition, you might have developed additional features for the Add-On. A complete deletion of the Add-On is only possible if all of these bits and pieces are known. And this is exactly where the Add-On uninstallation can help. It is integrated in the Add-On installation tool (SAINT): a list of the relevant objects will be created, dependencies will be checked and modifications are found. The Add-On uninstallation will inform you about objects that cannot be deleted automatically and about existing usage. This is required to make sure that your system remains up and running.

After having completed the Add-On uninstallation, the Add-On is completely removed from your system.

What is the technique behind?

The system hosting the Add-On has to fulfill certain requirements; the Add-On itself has to be released for Add-on uninstallation.

Details on the prerequisites and a list of the supported Add-Ons can be found in SAP Note 2011192.

You can download the required software for free from SL Toolset. Need to find out more? Check the SCN blog about SL Toolset.

In future, we plan to support additional Add-Ons for uninstallation. We would like to make sure that we set the right priorities. Please let karin.spiegel@sap.com know about the Add-Ons where this is much-needed.
