Announcing SAP Screen Personas 3.0
On behalf of the global SAP Screen Personas product team, I am delighted to announce that SAP Screen Personas 3.0 has entered ramp-up. This is the long-awaited all-HTML version of SAP Screen Personas. SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is the most advanced SAP Screen Personas solution developed to date. It solidifies SAP Screen Personas’ position as the best-in-class personalization offering for SAP Dynpro Screens.
We have completey rebuilt the product from the ground up, leveraging what we have learned over the past 18 months from our existing customers. Now, SAP Screen Personas is part of the SAP GUI for HTML (Web GUI), so there is no separate Silverlight client.
We are releasing SAP Screen Personas 3.0 into ramp-up. “Ramp-up” means that the product is available for download to customers that meet the specific ramp-up criteria. By releasing SAP Screen Personas 3.0 to a carefully screened group of customers, we can ensure that the product meets SAP’s performance, scalability, and quality targets when it becomes generally available.
>>> Tips on how to apply for SAP Screen Personas 3.0 ramp-up. <<<
For more information about the ramp-up in general, you can read “Demystifying SAP’s Ramp-Up process”.
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 builds on what we have learned from many customer deployments.
Thank you to the dozens of customers that have provided constructive feedback and suggestions on how to improve the product. I expect many of you will see some of your ideas here.
Here are some details on what to expect from SAP Screen Personas 3.0.
Theme |
What We Heard |
What We Delivered |
Improved performance |
SAP Screen Personas improves usability, but sometimes the rendering performance does not meet our expectations. |
The Web GUI currently leverages lazy loading, rendering information when it is required, rather than the pre-fetch approach of SAP Screen Personas 2.0. By integrating into the Web GUI, SAP Screen Personas 3.0 inherits this functionality. We expect this to have a major impact on performance, especially when transactions contain large tables. For optimal performance, we continue to recommend using table variants to eliminate unused columns. |
Enhanced scripting |
The scripting is easy to use, but we need a more powerful engine. |
To support more advanced users in SAP Screen Personas, we made the scripting engine even more powerful. Based on JavaScript, this includes looping, nested IF conditions, and logging capabilities. We now maintain a script library independently of the buttons, so it will become much easier to reuse scripts across flavors. In addition, we are keeping the simple record/playback capabilities, but now this generates the JavaScript you need. People who had early access to this functionality during the customer validation phase were very excited about the new scripting capabilities. |
Make editing more user friendly and dynamic |
SAP Screen Personas is very easy to use, but, I need to do the same steps multiple times to make the screen look like what I want. Also, some of the more granular features such as setting an exact button size are hard to find. |
While SAP Screen Personas has long had very rich functionality, many capabilities were exposed in the advanced properties window. Now, we display these functions in the menu to make it easier to deliver personalized screens. For designers, we have added a global theming menu and copy/paste capabilities to make it easier to create a design once and reuse on multiple flavors or transactions. |
Remove Silverlight dependency without losing functionality |
We do not want to use Silverlight. This is old technology. |
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is now integrated into the Web GUI. This means a simpler architecture, no separate client application, and no more Silverlight dependency. |
Of course, the business value of SAP Screen Personas remains the same.
- Improve SAP adoption by making screens easier to use
- Increase employee productivity by simplifying screens to reduce typing
- Reduce training costs by making SAP ERP screens more intuitive
- Enhance data quality by reducing free text entry
Next steps
1. Decide if you are ready to get started?
2. Apply for ramp-up through your account executive. We are looking for customers with a project scope aimed at going live with SAP Screen Personas within 3-4 months.
For the SAP Screen Personas product team, Peter Spielvogel.
Does the enhanced WebGUI use UI5 libs ?
Can I migrate my old flavours and scripts ?
Hi Owen,
yes, there is a migration process for existing flavors in place.
We are currently working on a tutorial to make it easy for existing SAP Screen Personas customers migrate: Getting Started - Personas 2.0 to 3.0 Flavor Migration - SAP Imagineering - SCN Wiki
SAP Screen Personas now relies on the rendering of the SAP GUI for HTML. So while most of the SAP Screen Personas specific pieces are in fact build using SAPUI5 the SAP GUI for HTML parts leverages a different internal framework called Unified Rendering.
When will the customers in ramp-up get access to the files?
Dear Michael,
As soon as a customer is accepted for ramp-up, and the restricted shipment department has the information to give you access for downloading.
Best regards,
Sylvia Barnard
Congrats and all the best to the team (especially to Sylvia and Peter :-))
Hello,
Is there any enablement material for SAP consultants to deliver SP 3.0?
Thanks.
Leonardo.
There is a collection of ramp-up knowledge transfer (RKT) materials here:

Hi Peter,
Is SAP Kernel 7.42 already available?
We already downloaded Personas 3.0 but when searching for the SAP Kernel, we didn't find it yet...
Thx!
Regards,
Hans
Dear Hans,
The new SAP Kernel is not yet available. We will announce it as soon as the new SAP Kernel will be available for you - it is planned to have it soon.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Hi Sylvia,
Do you have any idea when?
Next week? Next month? ...?
Thx!
Regards,
Hans
Dear Hans,
I knew that this question was going to come! 😀
It will definitely be this month, rather sooner than later...I simply cannot be more precise.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Oké, Thx! 🙂
Maybe end of June: SAP Screen Personas 2015 Outlook (Roadmap)
Hi Peter,
When should we expect Personas 3.0 to be generally available for download?
Regards,
Manoj Nile
Dear Manoj,
Personas 3.0 will be general available after the ramp-up phase has ended successfully.
As the Personas 3.0 ramp-up projects only started quite recently it will surely take a few months time before we will go GA with Personas 3.0.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Hi all experts ,
I have a questions , Is possible use Smartphone or tablet for SAP SCREEN PERSONAS ?
Officially this is not supported because Personas is a desktop tool at this point (plus it will run on a Windows 8.x tablet too).
If you are using Personas 3.0 then you can try to create a flavor and see if it works on your mobile device. If it does, you're in luck but if it doesn't, there is no support for it right now.
Peter,
It's very good to know that 3.0 has been announced, i would like to know a few more details.
We are currently in the works and producing Personas screens and are facing performance issues due to Silver Light i believe. would like to know when will 3.0 available for deployment? If it's anytime soon we would like to know all the details.

Program Manager
Hi Naveed,
We will release SAP Screen Personas 3.0 as generally available after we complete the ramp-up process. Our customers now control the timeline for this. Once several customers go live, then we will complete the ramp-up. This typically takes several months.
Regards,
Peter
Hello, could you indicate a guide that inform what are the minimum pre requisites for personas 3.0 ?
Thanks.
Lucas
Dear Lucas,
Technical requirements
You will find more information on Peter's blog here: http://scn.sap.com/community/gui/blog/2014/08/13/how-to-apply-for-sap-screen-personas-30-ramp-up but please be aware that all our ramp-up slots are filled!
Best regards, Sylvia
Thank you Sylvia!
Still in Ramp-up? or is it available already?
Hi Ricardo,
SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is still in ramp-up. When it becomes generally available, we will announce it on SCN.
Regards,
Peter
Hello,
it is possible to render SAP Screen Personas 3.0 with browser-able mobile devices? I'm not sure, because it is based on HTML 5, otherwise the mobile device need maybe LAN connection for rendering and therefore it is not possible for all browser-able mobile devices.
Thanks for helping me.
Regards
Hi Benjamin,
It appears that your question was answered here:
Regards,
Peter
Hi Sylvia / Peter,
We are attempting to get Personas 3.0 activated and are facing issues with respect to kernel as it appears from the screenshot of Health Check below. Please throw some light as to how this can be fixed:
You need the latest DW patch which is patch 36 or 37. looks like you need to activate the
/default_host/sap/bc/personas3 service as well in sicf
Thank you Mike for the quick response.
I activated the 'personas3' service through SICF. By DW patch do you mean kernel patch level need to be upgraded to 36 or 37?
that is correct you need the DW SAR file rather than the full SAPEXE SAR file.
Dear Manoj, yes, please update the kernel patch to the latest one. Also check the recommendations in the latest note. And as Michael pointed out, your SICF service seems to be off.
Best regards, Sylvia
Hi Sylvia / Mike / Peter
I got the kernel update to latest patch level i.e. 37 however the health check tool still shows like this:
Also let me know which latest note I should refer to.
Regards,
Manoj Nile
All the notes listed here - http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2050325
Mike,
While applying all notes from 2050325, I get the following message:
System setting does not allow changes to be made to object NOTE 0002098656.
However am not sure which object it is referring to.
I need to share the object info with my basis colleague.
Regards,
Manoj Nile
Go to transaction SE06 and click on the button 'System Change Option".
Scroll down in the Software Component list to PERSONAS and check if it is set to 'Modifiable'. My guess is that it isn't, so change the setting. Do the same for namespace /PERSONAS/.
Save and try to apply the notes again.
Hi Tamas,
Appreciate your response. This helped. Namespace was set to 'Not modifiable'.
You guys rock!. 🙂
Cheers,
Manoj Nile
Hello All,
I was wondering if there were any updates regarding general availability of Personas 3.0?
Thanks,
Brian
Dear Brian,
We are still in ramp-up. As soon as this changes we will post it.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Maybe end of June: SAP Screen Personas 2015 Outlook (Roadmap)
Hello Mike / Sylvia / Peter
I am done with all the configuration & notes implementation on our system to enable Personas 3.0. However I still can't get blue line & personas icon [as mentioned in Personas 3.0 config guide]. Don't know what is missing now...please guide
Following is current status in health check tool:
Also using the following URL to access Personas 3.0:
http://coempf01.adc.nar.capgemini.com:8000/sap/bc/personas?sap-ie=edge&sap-client=510&sap-language=EN
Have you given yourself all the personas roles?
/PERSONAS/ADMIN_ROLE is the one I use.
Yes Mike...I have the role assigned to me. Just one clarification though we couldn't find authorization object /pers/aobj hence we used S_PERSONAS which has all the activities listed in config guide. Is that OK?
That sounds like you are using the your own defined role rather than the SAP provided role, as I don't cover the security side of our systems so for the ramp-up we are only using the SAP Provided Roles.
Mike
I am using the standard role provided i.e. /PERSONAS/ADMIN_ROLE as you can see in the screenshot below:
Have you removed the Z_PERSONAS role, could this be conflicting with the installation? I always find it's best to run through the installation to the letter without doing anything custom and then trying the basic functionality before beginning to customize.
If it still doesn't work, then as a RAMP-UP customer I would suggest you raise an OSS Note.
Z_PERSONAS is a role that was created for assigning S_PERSONAS object & associated activities with it [Personas config guide page # 6]. I removed it to check the impact but no luck 🙁
I guess, I will have to raise OSS then..
Also which browser are you using Firefox? I would suggest you try using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome
I am using Google Chrome.
hi Manoj,
Please create an OSS message and we will take a look. There is no space here to discuss further. And please create a new discussion so that its helpful for others too
Regards,
Susahnt
Hi Sushant,
I have created an OSS message # 115621 / 2015 today. Please take a look & let me know.
Regards,
Manoj Nile
Based on the requirement for Kernel 7.42 which is currently for systems on NetWeaver 7.4 I can't imagine the support will change.
I really hope it's not just available for ERP 6.0/EHP7. We have a lot of interest in using Personas 3.0 and having to do an EhP upgrade will add a lot of work to the project.
Personas is very much developed around the Kernel with it being overlayed on top of the webgui. An EhP upgrade is only as bad as an SPS if you decided to enable the functionality supplied in the SPS. Otherwise it is just a technical upgrade utilizing the most up to date NetWeaver release.
To maximize the number of customers that can benefit from SAP Screen Personas 3.0, we are planning to make it available on kernels other than 7.42. This would happen some time after general availability of the product.
More details here:
http://scn.sap.com/community/gui/blog/2015/02/11/sap-screen-personas-2015-outlook-roadmap
Hi Mike / Sylvia / Tobias,
We are implementing Personas 2.0 with SP level 0002 & support package SAPK-20002INPERSOS installed for a client.
However we are facing issues launching personas with the URL generated during configuration.
We have implemented all the notes required. However we still see the clientaccesspolicy.xml & crossdomain.xml not configured correctly as per the config check tool of Personas.
The two xml files are available on the application server folder /usr/sap/ECD/DVEBMGS00/data
Not sure if the files are in correct folder. Can one of you guide us here?
I have more questions but I need quick one for this first.
Regards,
Manoj
Hi manoj,
As requested before too, please post your questions in a discussion thread and besides this post if for Personas 3.0. Your question has already been asked and answered in several thread. Please do a quick search before posting.
http://scn.sap.com/community/gui/content?query=clientaccesspolicy
And if you do not get answer, based on other posts, create a new discussion thread.
Sushant
(P.s. I think you need to restart your server instance before those files become accessible)
Hello Guru's
Nice knowing that SP3.0 will solve a lot of problems, but as far as I know it's still in Ramp-up. Is there any idea when this fase is closed an SP 3.0 will becom avaliable for al SAP customers?? Please inform
Hi Kees,
We do not have a firm date. The release date is planned for after our ramp-up customers go live, to demonstrate that the product is sufficiently robust for general availability. I expect this will be in the first half of this year.
The complete outlook is here:
http://scn.sap.com/community/gui/blog/2015/02/11/sap-screen-personas-2015-outlook-roadmap
Regards,
Peter
Hi Peter,
Could you please let me know if Screen Personas 3.0 is still in Ramp-up phase as I could see in Product availability matrix in Marketplace that the general availability is planned in Q2 2015?
Thanks & Regards,
Aishwarya.
Dear Aishwarya,
The information shown on the Service Marketplace is correct. We are in ramp-up with SAP Screen Personas.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Dear Sylvia,
Thank you for your update.
Regards,
Aishwarya.
Hi there,
We're in the process of implementing Personas 2.0 and realised that from an administration perspective, there is very little in the way of reporting, e.g. User reports (users by group assignment, users by flavor assignment, users by Personas role assignment) and Flavor reports (flavor by name and/or description, flavor by group, flavor by transactional content) etc.
Is this lack of basic reporting functionality addressed in the new 3.0 release?
Kind regards,
Robin
We are planning to include more reporting capabilities in SAP Screen Personas 3.0 and in subsequent service packs.
Regards,
Peter
Is there any update for the release date of SAP Personas 3.0 ?
I am searching the SAP sites for a news about it but could not see any new information.
As a SAP Personas developer from a company which is not participating in the ramp-up period, I'm working on Personas 2.0 screens at the same time waiting for the new version for using the enhancements.
Hi Eralper,
Personas 3.0 will probably end the ramp-up fase end of this month.
So, SP01 is almost there! 😉
Cheers!
Regards,
Hans
Hi Peter,
We have a customer who is interested in using SAP Personas 3.0. However from the SAP PAM, it looks like v3.0 goes out of Mainstream Maintenance at exactly the same time as v2.0 and v1.0 on 31.12.2017. This seems a bit strange. Can you confirm if it is indeed correct?
Thanks,
Eamonn.
Hi Eamonn,
This is not correct. It will be later than that. We'll update the information when we release SAP Screen Personas 3.0 as generally available.
Regards,
Peter
Thanks Peter,
Is there a steer on what that date will be, which I can relay to the customer?
Rgds,
Eamonn.
Hello,
there is no changing, the date is still on 31.12.2017.
So, the date remains?
Thanks for an Information.
Dear Benjamin, yes, the date is currently 31.12.2017 as we went GA and shipped a first Service Pack in 2015.
As soon as we bring out a new SP, for example in 2016, it will get prolonged automatically to 31.12.2018 and so on.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Hi Peter,
Are we still on schedule for the release of SAP Screen Personas 3.0?
It was scheduled for June, 30 right?
Thanks & Regards
Helly
Dear Heely,
Please wait for our announcement that will come soon.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Dear Helly,
I hope you saw the announcement in the meantime that SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is GA: SAP Screen Personas 3.0 Is Generally Available, including Service Pack 1
Best regards,
Sylvia
Hi Sylvia,
We just upgraded the Screen Persona to Version 3.0 in central personas system.
I want to know the way to establish connection to backend system from central personas system in Screen Personas 3.0. The backend systems are ERP EHP5 systems.
In Old version, the connection is provided using a dashboard at the main screen and by clicking on it, it takes us to the backend server to create flavour. When I open the Perosna from SICF service Personas, it takes me directly to the Persona server. I am confused how can I connect to backend server to create flavour. Please advise.
Thanks & Regards,
Aishwarya.

Hi Tamas,
I too saw that thread. But solution is not provided there.
Please help.
Thanks & Regards,
Aishwarya.
Dear Aishwarya,
Please be aware that there are technical prerequisites necessary, this was what Tamas was referring to. You need EHP7 for Personas 3. It will not work on EPH5.
Have a look at the pre- and post installation checklist: Pre and post installation Checklist - SAP Imagineering - SCN Wiki. There you can also find a link to the configuration guide.
Best regards,
Sylvia
Hi Sylvia,
Thank you so much for your update.
