CLMM: Mass change & update new characteristic values for set of materials

How to mass change and update new characteristic value assigned to set of materials

Transaction:  CLMM

The mass change function lets you change large quantities of  This is very useful if you change your classification of super model & want to extend this changes to all connected models.

There are
three options available:

  1. Copy Values Assigned to Object

You can use this option to copy assigned characteristic values for any object to other objects.

Ex. Copy values from one material to other materials

Note : The ‘Additional operation for generic change not allowed’ error usually occurs when the target object already has values assigned in material classification (Please see MM02 -> ‘Classification View’ of target object) . Therefore, before copying assigned values, in the ‘Target objs’ tab (in transaction CLMM) the option ‘Overwrite Existing Values’ must be enabled.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Hello everyone,

I had a similar requirement wherein I wanted to mass update materials with a newly created characteristics ‘default’ value. Example: my client has requirement to mark items with flag say-Top100 if they are in top100 materials. So, they need a flag which says Yes/No for Top 100 characteristics.. I created characteristics and then mass updated all materials to have this characteristics value defaulted as ‘NO’. later using same method, for the top100 items I updated as YES.

You can use it to mass update material master with existing characteristics values also.

Here is what you need to do for material master existing or new characteristics ‘value’ mass update in material master.

Go to CLMM-> click over Set and Change values

Then Supply the ‘characteristics name’ and the ‘new value’ you want all those material master to get updated. No other value is needed here. Here note that the values what you enter here is coming from 'Characteristics' allowed value. My characteristics has value 'Yes-Y and No-N' available in CT04.

Click on tab target object. Here you need to input all materials number. Get those list of materials and copy them( ctrl+C). Now at the bottom of the screen, find ‘Upload from clipboard button’. Click over it and all your items copied will be uploaded.

Now next is to mass update. If you want to test run, you can do by clicking over mouth icon. Else click over mass update and system will do the needful.  I didn’t find background update here, only foreground.

To verify the mass update, check log displayed in next screen. System will provide those details in next screen by red, yellow and green.

To verify the data at table level, use the table AUSP, supply ‘characteristics name’ into Internal char. field and click over number of entries. System will give you all materials entries with values assigned to them.

  • Kindly note that this is able to change CLASSIFICATION (Tables KSSK ... INOB) only but NOT VARIANT CONFIGURATION (IBIN IBINVALUES IBSYMBOL).

    Kind Regards
