Quick Check List of Technical Prerequisites for Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA) and Test Scope Optimization (TSO)

BPCA and TSO in Outlook

The Business Process Change Analyzer is a standard SAP Solution Manager 7.1 functionality aimed to identify impact of planned changes on live environments (systems); and to define the test scope from different perspective e.g. business process priority or criticality. It is used for change impact analysis and allows to do a risk based test planning and execution. BPCA is a part of the End to End Integration Testing standard for SAP Solutions. The Business Process Change Analyzer compares the objects in transports to the objects in TBOMs (Technical Bill of Material) of the target (production) system. Since every TBOM is assigned to an executable entity (e.g. transactions, programs, WebDynpro application etc.) in a scenario, business process or process step, you can determine which parts of Business Process Hierarchy are affected by the change and the same due for testing.

You can use the test cases information to create scenario-based test plans that are tailored to the relevant changes.

With the Business Process Change Analyzer, you can:

  • Analyze which business processes are affected by the specified change or by the planned activation of a business function
  • Optimize the test scope of a BPCA results to test what matters
  • Create test plans from the analysis results either in Test Workbench or in the Test Set module of Quality Center by HP.

There is number of very good documentation (how-to guides and Best Practice documents) explaining the aim of BPCA in details and how to setup and use this application. The documents can be found in:

Quick Check List of Technical Prerequisites for BPCA

The table below summarizes the action items necessary to technically enable the BPCA and TSO functionalities. The actions can be distributed among your IT teams to streamline the work and ensure all perquisites are correctly implemented to use those BPCA applications:
