Solution Manager Update – Solman joins the war on Complexity

The major theme to come out of Sapphire this year was the mantra of “Run Simple” with SAP CEO, Bill McDermott, declaring war on “complexity”. He went on to identify some key SAP initiatives for removing complexity: ERP on HANA, Cloud based applications, and the Simplification of the User interface via SAP Fiori and Screen Personas – now free.

By moving to ERP on HANA, data processing can be simplified with the removal of batch jobs, aggregate tables and real time monitoring of processes enabled. This along with Cloud based applications to remove operational complexity is what SAP sees as “Run Simple”. SAP have also removed the licensing barrier to Fiori, allowing customers to simplify the user experience (UX) on any device.

So what does the journey to simplicity look like? From this a roadmap can be developed to enable the business value.

In keeping with the “Run Simple” theme SAP has provided a set of tools and processes under Enterprise Support to help manage this change and reduce complexity. This includes managing the required upgrades, data migrations (HANA), management of hybrid environments and process simplification.

• Custom Code Management – Efficiently manage custom code
• Scope and Effort Analyzer – Estimate upgrade effort and optimize testing
• End to End (E2E) Integration Monitoring – All Cloud applications integrated into Solution Manager monitoring
• Business Process Monitoring – Continuous process improvement

These are combined with best practices for Hana Migrations, IT Planning, Run SAP Like a Factory, etc. In conclusion Solution Manager has joined the war on complexity by providing tools to help simplify the delivery of business outcomes in the world of Cloud based processes and HANA.
