The Webcast was very well visited, indicating that the ABAP for SAP HANA Topic is hot! For those who couldn't join: you can still attend by clicking HERE and watching the recording!

At the end of the Webcast, we had a very lively q&a session, and, due to time constraints, we couldn't answer all questions that were asked.

We are very grateful for the dialog with you, and we'd like to use this blog to continue the q&a session with you.

In addition, Wolfgang, Helmut and I will incrementally bring up the questions that were asked during the Webcast and answer them here to our best knowledge. Stay tuned!

Here are answers to some open questions from the chat during the webinar on Jul-16:

Q: Does use of HANA with ABAP require Netweaver Gateway?

A: ABAP for HANA does not require Gateway. Every 7.4 comes with out of the box Gateway support (no hub scenario). It is needed to expose OData Services (e.g. for UI5 Apps).

      Q. You mentioned dynamic code analyzing tools. Can you give examples which tools
      should be used?

A: With SQL Monitor (transaction SQLM), you can analyze all executed SQL statements.
With ABAP Test Cockpit (SATC), you can perform static code checks.
With SQL Performance Tuning Worklist (SWLT) you can merge results from SATC and SQLM.

You will find further information here:

Q: What will be the future aspects of OOABAP programming used in HANA apps? Or will
Java techniques be applied in the new age development programs?

A: This question deserves more space than we can provide in this blog.
The best source of information is given by many excellent contributions from Thomas Jung ( on HANA development, e.g., his openSAP courses or many blogs in SCN.
