Or does it?
A recent report released through the Center for Digital Education entitled 100 Gigabit Ethernet: The Way Forward for Research Networks – the essence of the report outlines that by by upgrading their data pipelines, universities and laboratories build better environments for discovery and innovation.
While the latest proliferation of Big Data and massive analytical research is increasing at a significant rate, it should be no surprise that a systemic upgrade of this nature will come with significant costs. Just crunching more data for the sake of cycles and speed can miss the point. It is the thought leadership behind that research that drives outcomes. That thought leadership are the researchers, faculty, even doctors or nurses conducting the research.
Faster generation of data may simply be faster generation of pointless data.
Still, with acceleration of Big data and the value it can bring will no doubt test the capacity of current networks, and ultimately alternate options may be necessary. So, still could be worthwhile reading – just with some necessary scrutiny.
