I am excited to write this blog as we reached a key milestone for the SAP Enterprise Portal and the overall SAP Ux strategy.

I assume that you have all heard (and if not, I highly encourage you to read the following announcement) that SAP Fiori and SAP Screen Personas are now included in the underlying licenses of the SAP software. This is a major change that I (personally) expect to have a very positive impact, and will play a key role in renovating and improving the SAP User Experience.

In the last few months we have been working hard to align the SAP Portal Ux with the Fiori Ux. With SAP Enterprise Portal 7.4 SP7 it is the first time that we are delivering a new portal framework page following the SAP Fiori design. This is a new role based, personalized, responsive (based on SAPUI5; running on multiple devices), and very intuitive portal framework page, running on the SAP Portal infrastructure and following the Fiori Design. This is actually running the Fiori launchpad on the SAP Portal infrastructure.  Together with the Fiori applications and the SAP Screen Personas Flavors, this will provide a new and highly improved user experience for the portal, while re-using the existing investment and key capabilities of the portal.

An important remark is that running the Fiori launchpad on the Portal, enables you to consume any type of content (Web Dynpro, SAP UI5, SAP Screen Personas, SAP Fiori, etc.). You are not limited to SAP Fiori applications only.

** there is an existing limitation to consume Fiori wave 2 and above applications in a standalone mode in the portal. This limitation is planned to be solved by Q3/2014.

Two additional new enhancements that will help you delivering a better user experience for your end users are:

  • UI Theme Designer integration with the portal – UI Theme Designer is a browser-based, WYSIWYG editor used to customize the user experience. Now, the UI Theme Designer is also used to customer the look & feel of the SAP Enterprise Portal in a simpler and easier way across UI technologies including SAPUI5
  • Broadcast Messages – a simple and intuitive tool to broadcast/send messages to groups of users in the portal, according to their role, assigned groups , etc.

Additional details:

Those of you who had the privilege to attend the ASUG Annual Conference, had the chance to see all of the above live in the conference. At SAP D-CODE, we plan to show this and much more. So, stay tuned…

    Sounds very cool Aviad!

Do you have any links for the broadcast message stuff? Sounds very much like something a customer has just engaged me to do as a custom development, would be great for them if it were available as a standard delivery option .

    Cheers.

    Hi Aviad,

First of all thanks for making the SAP Portal responsive 🙂

I have some questions about the Fiori Launchpad on Portal:

    1. Can the framework page be customized, like the current SAP Ajax Framework pages? Let’s say I want to integrate some extra javascript in the header/sidebar which communicates with content in the content area.

    2. Can the look&feel of the Fiori Framework be modified with the UI Theme Designer?

    3. Is there a SAPUI5 login page available, like the Fiori login page?

    4. Regarding navigation as described here. Is it not possible to open content in the content area where the tiles are, so that the users can always open the sidebar directly and navigate back or directly to another app? Or does everything always open in a new window?

    Cheers,

    Leo

      1. This is currently not possible, although this requirement is coming from several customers, so I expect it to get into the roadmap soon

      2. Yes, the Fiori Framework Page can be customized/branded with the UI Theme Designer

      3. There is a login page for each device type (desktop, smartphone, tablet)

      4. Currently it is not possible. It will always open in a new window.

Can SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards be launched from Fiori Launch Pad?

Can SAP Business Object Mobile be launched from Fiori Launch Pad ?

Is there any option to configure LESS(SAPUI5) theme and portal theme in same system?

Can Fiori Portal url be consumed through SAP Fiori Client for Android/IOS?

      Hi Eldose,

Can you please start a new (question) thread in the Portal forum. This will be the best way to ask a question and get answers.

      Thanks,

      Aviad

    Hello Aviad

I had these queries for some time now, just couldnt post them earlier.

    1) The ‘ABAP’ FLP uses UI2 services for getting the User pref settings from SU01. Does the ‘Portal’ FL framework page use similar services? If so, what are these services (I am assuming these will running on Portal server)

    2) Can existing Web Dynpro (Java/ABAP) application be embeded in this Portal FL Framework page?

    3) PoD vs FLP – What is the future direction? Is FLP recommended by SAP for all new implementations?

    Regards

    Sandip

      Hi Sandip,

      1. The Portal based Fiori framework page is using the portal navigation services to achieve the same user experience as the Fiori launchpad on ABAP
      2. You can launch also Web Dynpro (JAVA / ABAP) applications from the Fiori framework page, just as any other portal framework (keep in mind that these UI technologies will open in a new window). In principle, you can think about the Fiori framework page as yet another portal Framework page, so you can aggregate and launch any compatible portal iView
      3. Roadmap / future direction speaking, the Fiori framework page is the framework page that will be recommended due to several reasons (and I will mention only few of them): extended PAM support, easy and aligned branding with UI theme designer, responsive with aligned user experience across devices, and aligned with SAP strategic UX directions. The Fiori framework page and the AJAX framework page are the recommended portal framework pages (depending on the scenario).

      Regards,

      Aviad

        Hi Aviad

        Thank you for your inputs.

Do we already have documentation available somewhere for these Portal Navigation Services (assuming these are new services). If not available yet, are there plans to release them soon?

        Best Regards

        Sandip

    Hi Aviad,

thanks for sharing this, very interesting.

I’d like to integrate some custom apps developed in Fiori-like pattern into the Fiori Launchpad on EP.

The “Intent” mechanism looks very interesting, so I was wondering:

is it supported also on the Enterprise Portal version of the FLP?

    thanks, regards

    Vincenzo
