*SPOILER ALERT

Game of Thrones season 4 finale aired last night. As a GoT fan, the Data Viz team was curious to see how people around the world reacted to the key scenes during the episode. We quickly gathered data from Netbase and immediately got this information (put together with SAP Lumira infographics feature):

We then took a deeper look at  all the data from Netbase and uploaded them into SAP Lumira. See below:

1. Positive and Negative Mentions during the Episode

When looking at the positive mentions, you can clearly see two peaks during the running of the show. First peak (the smaller one) is when the episode first starts. The highest peak is around the time of the scene with Tyrion and Tywin Lannister. The epsiode is 1hr and 6min. This makes sense since the climax of the episode is during that scene.

2. Character Mentions

By looking at the number of mentions for each of the main character that appeared in the show, The Lannisters are the most mentioned characted with Tyrion and Tywin on the top. The father and son scene is definitely one of the most memorable scenes in the series. The two characters that had surprising results were Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. The sight of Daenerys locking up her dragons is heartbreaking as she realizes she is loosing control of her dragons. Another surprising characted is Jon Snow. You can also see from the analysis that Jon Snow's scenes of meeting Stanis Baratheon and burying Ygritte have resulted in a negative net sentiment. In addition, Cersei Lannister has the highest net sentiment out of all the characters.

3. Top Emotions

From looking at the top emotions from the data, you can clearly see that most of them are very positive. Viewers mostly used words such as "great", "best" and "love" to describe the season finale. The only bad thing about this is that now we have to wait awhile till the season 5 starts. Since George R.R. Martin has not yet finished writing the book that season 5 will be based on, rumors are that the TV series will be entirely different.
