This was the 5th consecutive year in which the AI Budapest Mobile Team had delivered demo applications to the Sapphire Now conference, where customers have the possibility to look at the latest innovative ideas. This year’s aim was to focus on Fiori applications and to add Mobile Qualities to them on iOS platform. The team’s demo was part of many presentati
ons including the Mobile Advisory Board, panel discussions and working groups, and was introduced in many platforms of the Sapphire NOW show floor. Based on the reception and the feedback from the audience the result was a great and unquestionable success.
Rick Costanzo (EVP Mobile Sales and GTM) had the following comment on Mobile Qualities: “...finally customers understand the value of it and how SMP will help…”

But what do we exactly call Mobile Qualities? Those are functionalities that use the possibilities already provided by mobile devices like: take a photo, add voice note, convert voice to text, scan barcode, address book and calendar integration, optical character recognition, push notification, text to speech, voice command, and location based services with maps and smart routes.

The team worked with the Fiori product owners to define those personas and related use cases that utilize Mobile Qualities. Finally we chose 6 Fiori applications for various personas like employee, manager,

sales representative, and retail store associate in 5 business areas to develop for the showcases. These applications are: My Travel and Expe

nses, Request New Customer, Lookup Retail Products, Approve Purchase Orders, My Appointments, and My Notes.

As for My Travel and Expenses and My Notes apps, we enabled the option to attach photos taken by the device camera and voice notes recorded by the device microphone to various business objects. The text fields can utilize the Voice to Text Mobile Quality. An additional feature in My Notes app is the Evernote integration. In the Lookup Retail Products app the team added the barcode reader functionality. With Request New Customer app you can search and access the device

address book and scan business cards by using the newly added Optical Character Recognition feature. To Approve Purchase Orders we added a simulated Push feature with which a new approvable order becomes visible even if the app is in the background. The Text to Speech quality helps you by reading the approvable items out loud, and a voice command recognition feature enables you to approve a certain order by simply saying “App
rove”. We integrated the device calendar into My Appointments app so appointments recorded there are visible in a single list. Finally meeting locations can be displayed on a map with the option to calculate routes from your current position.

During the two months of the development, the team worked closely with the application POs and UIDs to ensure that the demo applications  are delivered in high quality. Cooperation with the Solution Experience and the IL2 teams was another key point during the development phase of the Business Card Scanner and bringing the offline mode to life.

A lot of project related information and the demo application are accessible on the team’s wiki site and can be freely used for demo purposes. Feel free to test our demo apps and get back to us with your feedback.

Should you have any recommendations for which Fiori application could be supplemented by Mobile Qualities, please get in touch with the given application’s PO or don’t hesitate to contact us on the following e-mail address: DL Fiori Mobility Support

Our aim, seeing how well the demo applications were received on this year’s Sapphire NOW conference, is to make Mobile Qualities accessible and ready to be implemented to every Fiori application during the second half of 2014.

We are looking forward to next year’s Sapphire NOW conference to prepare another great demo!
