With Day 1 of SAPPHIRE NOW wrapped up, I was just taking a moment to reflect on what I saw. As the Industries campus Social Media Ambassador this year, I tried to get around and see as many of the sessions with our customers as possible. And, a few themes seemed to be consistent across the ones that I visited:
- We have amazing customers doing amazingly innovative things with SAP. I saw T-Mobile, Visa, Kalahari, Mercedes-AGS, Unilever, Womens Tennis Association and many more from a broad range of the 25 industries that SAP goes to market in. They all talked about how they are using technology to lead, to create a competitive advantage, to simplify their processes and to change their industries.
- Big Data is everywhere. Each of the sessions that I saw talked about the challenges and tremendous opportunities that are inherent in their business when they can get their arms around, and begin to effectively use, the massive amounts of data that they have access to. Each of them saw this as something that will completely change the way they do business and, ultimately, change the way that we view their entire industry over the next 5-10 years.
- The customer is at the heart of everything. Customer-centricity is what is driving all of the IT innovations that I heard about. I saw several versions of slides that had an IT project described by showing a circle with a customer in the middle. I think this is so exciting. Customers have the power today and they expect much more from whomever is selling to them. That customer may be a consumer or a business or an employee, but they are empowered and are transforming the way that all industries are interacting with them.
I’m looking forward to another great day of sessions and hearing how customers from across industries are working with SAP to shake things up, to become leaders in their own industry. I hope to see you all on the showfloor today in Orlando!
