As our CEO Bill McDermott, SAP stepped onto stage , more than 25,000 attendees at the show and a staggering 250,000 online attendees cheered,, tweeted , ready to hear what SAP’s enigmatic new leader had to say. Well, the message very simple. It was ” Simplicity”.
In the words of technology industry analyst Ray Wang, who summarized the whole keynote in his tweet “Welcome to the new era of one SAP. Your SAP. A networked SAP.”
A world where things are simple for you and where You are at the center and everything else revolves around how things need to be done for you.
“SAP has a bold vision for the future of business. We see a dream for a simpler world, a simpler SAP, and a simpler customer experience. A big company shouldn’t be structured like an onion and shouldn’t make you cry when you peel it back,” McDermott said. Indeed that is very true for any business and the more simpler a business the more chances are that customers would want to buy their products.
CEOs want the integrated enterprise, McDermott said. “Eighty percent of companies that move to the cloud save money and 2014 is the first year the majority of new workloads will be performed in the cloud. Transition is happening rapidly and SAP is with you every step of the way.” . SAP cloud powered by HANA is running in 20 data centers and now has 36 million users, running a variety of applications. “You can run your entire enterprise on HANA in the cloud,” said McDermott. HANA integrates all of SAP’s solutions in the cloud.
“HANA removes redundancy, reduces complexity and simplifies the IT stack,” he said. But it is about more than just a different way to deploy applications businesses have been using in the past. “This enables a new class of applications. We can use HANA to simulate and predict actions of consequence before they actually happen.”
Other announcements were made . The enhanced user experience for SAP Fiori is now to be provided free as a standard art of SAP packages. Later in the keynote he announced a partnership with e-Bay. A partnership with eBay and Ariba Network is to build a cloud-based enterprise service procurement catalog. It allows setting spending restrictions and creating a system for service approvals. It is an effort to shut down “maverick buying.” SAP is offering this service free for the next 30 days. “We wanted to partner with a company that understands marketplaces,” said McDermott about the choice to partner with eBay.
The huge day one at Sapphire Now 2014 finished with a moving talk from former airline Captain Chesley Sullenberger (who famously executed a water landing of his ailing airliner in New York’s Hudson River in 2009, saving the lives of all 155 on board).
