Hi all,

Today I thought it’s time to share some experience with Lumira. After a few month DATA Geek challenge ended another announcement is made. My last Blog got a serious dataset as background today’s set is just for fun. So please do not take it serious and throw a car on my head (It’s an insider, but some will know)

Let’s start and see why Germany will win 2014 World Cup.

First of all I took the dataset from this blog: Analyze Soccer with SAP Lumira and Show your Team Spirit!

After importing the dataset I calculated some new columns to have a ready_to_run dataset. It’s easy and very intuitive to calculate new stuff in Lumira. Ever worked with excel? Lumira is easier

Now let’s go to the visualizations:

My first visualization gives a view to the world-cups in the past. As you can see, Brazil is on top, but Germany is third. Ahh who cares, most of the players aren't playing today so it’s not relevant.

The next view shows who plays with the most goals in a game. See, here is Germany top, might be that we get more against us than Brazil or Italy, but who cares, it just proves that it is worse to buy a ticket where Germany is one of the opponents

In the next chart you can see why Germany will win this year. Germany is dark green. Isn't that an indicator? Ok, Brazil is greener (weired word :???: )…

let’s go on

Now I got the ultimate statistic. Germany got the first place! Woohoo

Oh, this statistic might not be that good and do not say anything about the quality.

Ok, one last try. Here is another shot:

You see, Germany is exact in the middle of the map, isn't that a good reason?

You got me, I surrender. But the more interesting fact is the message between the lines. SAP Lumira is a powerful tool. It includes a lot of awesome features and no, it is not excel by SAP. What I want to say with this blog is that Lumira got the power to change the daily work with statistics and bring the prepared stuff faster easier and more understandable to the relevant persons.

To prepare my views here to show you all why Germany wins  this World-Cup took me just couple hours. And furthermore, if I reduce the time without the preparation and writing this blog here it took me an hour. You see how fast you can get into it and prepare awesome statistics.

I’m pretty sure, if you give it a try and show your management what you can do in a very short time they will lift you up. (No Guarantee, maybe they just shake your hand). Anyway, download the free trial version and get started. It is a lot of fun and I really love to read blogs about it. Perhaps there is someone using it to show statistics in ERP-projects.

That’s it, as mentioned above, don't take it too serious and I hope you could smile while reading it. I wish everybody round the world all the best and a lot of fun during the World Cup 2014.

Cheers

Florian

PS: I never received my shirt for the DATA Geek challenge. If there is one left, yes it’s mine

PPS:Out of some reason I'm not able to share the dataset  <--Got it, wrong type.
