The SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA was launched on the 10th of January 2013, bringing transactions and analytics into a single in-memory platform. This announcement was a historical launch for SAP, forty years after the release of SAP R/1 in the market.

In fact, the SAP Business Suite being powered by the SAP HANA platform represents a redefined suite of applications providing not only a new platform alternative for customers but—as importantly—unprecedented value: enabling enterprises to move from batch to real-time, drastically simplify IT, and reinvent the user experience – all without disruption.

So what happened since the launch?

We have seen rapid adoption across regions and industries. We now have more than 1000 customers, positioning SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA as one of the fastest growing products in SAP’s history. It’s a strong sign that customers and partners see the value SAP HANA can bring, both to IT and the business. Here are some of my favorite examples of the value that this innovation has brought to our customers.

Business Innovation Foundation

There’s no question that bringing transactions and analytics into a single in-memory platform such as HANA means doing things faster—much faster than ever before. But the real power of SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA is that it serves as a foundation for business innovation. Customers can change or invent new business processes leveraging techniques not available before, such as predictive, on-the-fly analysis and reporting, or advanced search.

For example, Bangkok Airways wanted to speed up its business processes in order to translate real-time insights into immediate action. Established more than 40 years ago as the first private airline in Thailand, Bangkok Airways positions itself as a boutique airline offering personalized services and travel experiences. By moving to real-time processes, Bangkok Airways will now get an up-to-the minute view into business performance which will support
growth and accelerate its network and fleet expansion. “
Our team will gain access to real-time analysis on the performance of the business. It’s faster and more accurate than our previous approach, and it will help us make better decisions quickly, strengthen our service offerings, and maintain customer loyalty in the highly competitive aviation industry,” Bangkok Airways President Puttipong Prasartthong-Osoth says. “But the true impact goes beyond this. The velocity of computing on HANA makes it an ideal platform for our future applications, and we expect the business value derived from this speed to transform our business.”

Simpler IT with Choice

Customers have also found that SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA greatly simplifies their IT while providing more deployment
options (on-premise, cloud and hybrid).

An original designed manufacturer of electronics parts including GPS systems for automotive companies such asPorsche and Daimler, Schaidt Innovations deployed SAP ERP powered by SAP HANA in the cloud. The solution covers all operational areas, including production planning, materials management, financials, and sales. It also met Schaidt’s auto-industry specific needs.

A cloud solution gave Schaidt the best of both worlds: the option of keeping costs variable over the term of the contract along with the reliability and support guaranteed by an established vendor. There was no up-front investment required, and the solution didn’t require Schaidt to stand up an IT infrastructure group in-house. Schaidt was able to deploy the new system within four weeks. A week later, they registered and invoiced their first production run.

We’ve also seen customers reduce their database sizes dramatically. At Usha, our first Indian customer to go live with ERP on HANA, and at Joskin Group in Belgium the move to SAP HANA reduced database size by a factor of six. Our partner itelligence saw its database size decrease by 72 percent.

Reinvented User Experience

Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW), Australia’s largest urban fire and rescue service, currently has 100,000 users on SAP Business Suite
powered by HANA. The system serves as the basis for improving the user experience with modern design and standards such as UI5.

SAP has worked closely with customers to advance the way end-users interact with applications. The SAP Fiori user experience paradigm is the result, providing a more personalized (role-based), responsive and simple environment for business users. We have also launched SAP Smart Business cockpits delivering instant insight-to-action in the context of the SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA. Eleven cockpits are already available.

But user experience also means end customer experience. Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB or German Football Association) is the world’s largest
sports federation representing more than 25,000 clubs. DFB wanted the ability to create one-of-a-kind experiences and provide individual attention to its
fans. The implementation of SAP CRM powered by SAP HANA enabled DFB to create a world-class fan experience with simpler communication, better campaign management, and personalized offers.

More than 15 SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA customers and partners will be sharing their experience at SAPPHIRE NOW event in Orlando next week (June 3-5, 2014).
