My 3 takeaways from the interesting survey Digital Digital Roadblock: Marketers struggle to reinvent themselves from Adobe.

Does your CMO have the right skills?

I agree that ‘companies needs to hire more digital talent’, however I also believe there is a huge gap between today’s digital marketing landscape and the knowledge level of digital marketing among CMO’s and marketing executives. The CMO’s have to understand the impact digital marketing have on their business, customers and prospects, otherwise they might be replaced by one of the new hired digital talents.

Use free training and become the marketer you want to be

30 % of the respondents haven’t become “the marketer they aspire to be” due to lack of training in new marketing skills. “Lack of training”? There are hundreds of training videos available on YouTube you can watch for free, there are millions of marketing blogs that write about the latest marketing skills and news, and many marketing networks to join where you can meet people and exchange experiences and learn from each other.  So, I really don’t understand why 30 % experience lack of training.

Bright future

Marketers are doing ‘much more’ in digital marketing compared with last year within many areas. That is a healthy result, otherwise I would be very worried and I am looking forward to companies doing more and more digital marketing.
