Keeping customers engaged is crucial to the long-term success of any business, and big data is a huge part of that strategy in many organizations. The National Football League, for instance, uses big data technology to keep its fans involved before and after the big game.

The NFL has decades upon decades of statistics and other data, and SAP helps the league -- and millions of football fans -- make use of that information.

But the NFL didn’t get there alone.

“Our core competency is not technology,” Vishal Shah, NFL vice president of Digital Media Business Development, told SAP TV. So when the NFL developed a custom cloud-based venue for its millions of Fantasy Football players, it did so alongside SAP Services. “They’re not [just] handing you a piece of software ... they’re telling you how to use it, and how to best maximize it.”

SAP Services just expanded its capacity to help customers across industries make savvy decisions based on high-volume streams of data, the company announced Monday. These vast torrents of data (known as big data) are potential opportunities for users to act faster and smarter -- if they have the right technology, such as a comprehensive suite of big data services from SAP.

Big data-related services that SAP consultants offer include:

  • Business assessment: Collaborating with customers to find where big data technology can maximize performance
  • Platform and solution implementation: Finding ways to harmonize system landscapes to improve efficiency, as well as deploy analytics and applications to reveal new business potential
  • Management and optimization: Looking for what best meets an organization’s needs, and then deploying solutions on-premises, in the cloud or via an optimized blend of the two

“The NFL team and the SAP professional services team worked together to build the SAP Player Comparison Tool,” Cory Mummery, NFL senior director of Fantasy Football & Product Media, told SAP TV. “The culmination of these two teams working together over several months resulted in products that our users have found to be indispensable.”

These SAP HANA-powered big data services are broad in scope, yet scalable, from short-term to ongoing strategic advisory to the entire end-to-end process and life cycle. SAP also announced its 2014 Big Data Tour on Monday.

“SAP Services made it very intuitive for us,” NFL’s Shah said. “We would recommend their consulting services to anyone.”
