Using KPI Tile in Design Studio – Learning Hub Exercise

This was the final exercise in the Design Studio course in Learning Hub.  For more on Learning Hub see Getting access & accessing SAP Learning Hub #SAPEducation by Tom Cenens

The first part of the exercise covered using the KPI Tile.  The prerequisite is that you already installed the sample KPI tile in Design Studio.  For more information on how to do that see the SAP Help at SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio 1.2 SP01 – SAP Help Portal Page

/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/1kpitile_445664.gif

The above shows how it looks in run time, where I have the Project Budget, Actuals and Project Budget Balance total amounts all “bound” to the KPI tile.

The above shows the data binding for the total project budget.

Also part of the exercise was setting up the combination dual-axis chart with tool tips.  The tool tips show in the above that the Alterations actuals is the main cause of being over budget.

For some reason I had trouble getting the KPI tile to install and I deviated from the SAP help instructions.  If I have time I will document what I did.

      Hi Tammy,

I had the same problem to install SAP Design Studio SDK Templates and Samples zip file for version 1.3.

      Could you share your knowledge?

      Regards,

      Liat

thanks Tammy, but I get an error

      "could not find Jar file..."

I think that the DS_13_SP01_SDK_SAMPLES as downloded from SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio 1.3 SP01 – SAP Help Portal Page is missing artifact and content jar files.

Hi Liat - could you post this as a new discussion thread, and hopefully someone from SAP sees it?

      Liat,

These SDKs will need to be exported as deployable feature. I had similar issue. In fact it's not the issue at all. I did not read SDK installation guide (specially the section 3) properly.

Hi Stavros - given the date, my guess is this is the Design Studio Learning Map 1.2 - see screen shot below for the Learning Map Design Studio courses - I recommend them:

      Hi Tammy,

I was wondering if it is possible to use the KPI Tile with a data extension. Since graphical data selection isn't allowed for custom data sources, how can I manually enter the selection string?

      Thanks and regards,

      Hi Yash,

Have you tried using the KPI Tile with a custom data source in Design Studio 1.5?  According to the blog What's New in Design Studio 1.5 SDK,  graphical data selection is now also available for custom data sources (Refer to the section titled Better Data Selection Tool).

      Regards,

      Mustafa.

      Hi Mustafa,

No, I'm still on 1.4. Haven't migrated to 1.5 yet. Have a deadline coming up for a few deliverables. I'll upgrade once I'm done.

I did find a way to enter the selection manually for the time being. Being able to do it using GUI will be extremely helpful though. Looking forward to working with the new version soon.

      Cheers.

      Yash
