Use/Purpose:

Passing “*” as input
in the variable screen to fetch data by defining a pattern

Proposed Solution:

This article would help in defining a pattern to the Purchasing Group Variable where
we have the data in the backend as CHN-G4P, BI3-G4P, and 0SR-F6P, Etc., Hence
we would define the following pattern in the variable screen as “CHN*”, which
would fetch the data pertaining to the above pattern.

Procedure:

  1. Variable Creation:

The following properties are selected for the variable
creation.

Type of variable: Characteristic Value

Processing By: Manual Input/Default Value

Reference Characteristic: Refer to the Info Object
required.

Under the Details Tab the following selections are
chosen:

Variable Represents: Selection Option

Variable Is: Optional/Mandatory (Based on the
requirement)

Select the option Variable is Ready for Input.

2. Execute the query in RSRT/ Query Analyzer:

In our case the variable name is IFR-
Purchasing Group. And in the backend we have data such as CHN-G4P, BI3-G4P, and
0SR-F6P, Etc.,

Hence we would select the operator as *
and define the following pattern in the variable screen as “CHN*”, which would
fetch the data pertaining to the above pattern.
