What chance does data have when faced with strong opinions?!
Sadly, this isn’t really a joke — every day, information that has cost millions of dollars to collect and analyze is ignored by folks who think that they simply “know” better (a corporate equivalent of all those partisan politicians and voters that don’t think mere facts should get in the way of their most heartfelt convictions…).
What can you do about it? Help the organization develop an information culture and pay particular attention to anything that gets in the way of people believing your data — in particular, data governance, which is becoming even more important in a big data era.
