Batch Assignment in Production Order – SAP AFS
SAP AFS has a special functionality called batch assignment in production order. It seems this functionality is not widely used because very less discussions/ documents could be found on the internet about this functionality. Batch assignments has to be done manually at the time of creating production order. This may be a reason why this functionality is not that much popular. However this functionality may perhaps useful for some users.
This means production order creator/planner can assign batches for the production order components to be issued to the production order. To assign batches requirement category of the production order and stock category of the batches should be same. Simply order creator/ planner can suggest what component batches should be issue to the production order. Once order creator has assigned batches for the components in the production order those batches will be automatically picked up in MB1A – Goods Issue screen.
- Production order Creation/Change
Maintain requirement category in order header. Go to SKU data.
2. Maintain requirement category , the same category which you have component stock. Copy and save the production order.
3. Go to components of the production order and select the component which you need to assign batches.
4. This is the batch assignment screen. Select the order number and press assign button above. Batches with the same requirement category will be picked up in screen.
Once you do the assignment screen will show the reserved quantity and balance.
Save the production order.
Goods Issue to Production Order-MB1A
When components are issuing to this production order from the warehouse those assigned batches will be automatically picked in MB1A screen. Then warehouse keeper does not need to worry about which batches should be issued to this production order. However these batches are still editable in MB1A.
Select the component and press adopt button.
System will pick the batches which order creator / planner has assigned.
If this batch quantities are not correctly picked up (in upper versions from AFS 5.0 ) please refer SAP note 2001949.
This functionality my not be commonly used in world. However I thought to share this because I couldn’t find any discussion/ blog about this in SCN when I wanted to read about this few months back. This may be helpful for someone in future.
Thanks Jeewana for sharing this helpful document. 🙂
