Latest BWA Notes Released 1st Quarter 2014

Below follows the latest BWA notes released for the 1st quarter of 2014:

SAP Note: 1873477 – Check BWA Settings
Highlighted points:

For testing reasons the BWA functions FEMS Compression, DimFn cache and data reading in “chunks” can now get switched off in RSRT.

This SAP note comes with an ABAP correction

SAP Note: 1887499 – BWA7.00 & 7.20 : the data encryption in BWA

Highlighted points:
Access possibilities on the raw data in BWA.

The data in BWA is encoded. You cannot check the raw data from index files
directly. You need to use TREX Admin stand-alone tool or execute transaction
TREXADMIN in BW system in order to see raw data.

SAP Note: 1895730 – Parallel Indexing processes rarely terminates due to lock

Highlighted points:
(BW note) A problem with the lock setting in BW. Parallel handling of an index shows a lock-error in SM37.

SAP Note: 1905257 – Report RSDDTREX_SINGLE_TABLE_INDEX mit der automatischen Anpassung des “initialReorg”
Highlighted points:

With this BW note it is no longer necessary to switch “initialReorg” off while running RSDDTREX_SINGLE_TABLE_INDEX for big indexes.

SAP Note: 1952887 – Virtual Infoprovider Indexing does not finish when data is read in packages

Highlighted points:
In some cases the indexing of a Virtual Provider goes into an endless loop. The filling job then runs for ever.

SAP Note: 1953235 – BWA7.20 rev29: “python check4LongRunThreads.py” returns segment fault error
Highlighted points:

This python script did not run in previous BWA 7.20 Revisions.

Available from BWA 7.20 Revision 30 or later.

SAP Note: 1953314 – BWA7.X: Make alert check ‘longrun_threads’ available in checkset HPA_2

Highlighted points:
The check longrun_threads is also part of the checkset HPA_2.
This information is available after upgrade to BIA/BWA 720 Revision 30 or BIA/BWA 700 Revision 68.

SAP Note: 1954183 – Fix dump due to conversion error when raising exception CX_RS_INPUT_INVALID
Highlighted points:

A dump occurs when the exception CX_RS_INPUT_INVALID is raised.
The dump occurs as a consequence of a type conversion error when the exception CX_RS_INPUT_INVALID is raised. The type of ony of the exception parameters does not fit to the signature of the constructor of exception class CX_RS_INPUT_INVALID.

The loading of a big InfoProvider is very slow. In the filling log (SM37) the delay happens already during the first read from the database. The transfer to BWA and the BWA itself is ok.
This SAP note comes with an ABAP correction.

SAP Note: 1958848 – BWA 7.20 rev30: Creation/Filling of temp indexes not python traced

Highlighted points:
There was a gap in the python tracing functionality: Operations on temp-indexes were not traced. (These temp indexes are automatically created if a BW-query uses a hierarchy selection (and if this selection was not used earlier already).)
This will be fixed with BWA 7.20 Revision 31.

SAP Note: 1965591 – BWA 7.20 rev29: IndexServer crashes or returns error 2999 when running a query with hierarchy
Highlighted points:

The “Allstate issue” fix: With this correction the execution of SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES will really completely delete the temporary indexes (and not leave some hidden data structures undeleted which led to the problem).

Available from BWA 7.20 Revision 30 or later.

SAP Note: 1966774 – Incorrect query results when reporting against an InfoCube with a flattened BWA index

Highlighted points:
In BW 7.0x (only there) an error in BW can lead to an inconsistent Package dimension index and then wrong data from BWA.
Reloading the cube should fix the issue (temporarily).
This SAP note comes with an ABAP correction.

Highlighted points:

Highlighted points:
Recommendations for performance optimization on Linux for SLES 11 / SLES 11 for SAP SP2 or SP3.

SAP Note: 1978566 – RSDDBIAMON2: index checks reveal meaningless variances for BIA-only InfoCubes

Highlighted points:
Comparison of F-table size (DataBase) and F-index size (BWA) makes no sense for a BWA-only Provider. So it gets
switched off with this note.

Highlighted points:
What to do if the parts of a split index have very different sizes.

SAP Note: 1988771 – IndexServer restarts with Signal 11 in OlapEngine

Highlighted points:
Query execution causes IndexServer crash. With this solution we have a new switch that causes the query to abort with a nice error instead of a server crash.
This will be fixed with BWA 7.20 Revision 31.

SAP Note: 1993124 – BWA 7.00 Rev 68 + 7.20 Rev 30: System check new installation

Highlighted points:
(Jochen) checkBIA.py now accepts SuSE SLES 11 Sp3 and Ivy-Bridge CPU E5-2695 V2.
