Complete deletion of SPO object data

Semantic Partitioned Object (SPO) objects are either cubes or DSOs capable of storing the data by partition which usually corresponds to defined business objects. By this a split of data can be done and BW system can process bigger data volumes with better performance. For example you can partition your FI data by combination of fiscal year and company code. There will be particular SPO objects generated by system which will allow you to store the data as per fiscal year and company code. Having a wide range of years and company codes (e.g. you have a lot of them as per many legal entities within your organization) can end up having many individual objects within particular SPO. When it is coming to maintenance can can be an issue. You need to take look for many objects. Therefore a certain level of automation is required.

Here’s very nice small enhancement with regards to maintenance of SPO objects. The gist of enhancement is that it enables the deletion of data from all the objects within the same SPO. Like we are all used in case of cubes of DSO objects by simply going to right click menu of InfoProvider and selecting ‘Delete Data’ item.  Without this enhancement it was only possible to delete data within the SPO’s individual objects one by one in TA RSA1. As this needs to be done one each and every object it can be real issue for BW administrator which may go nuts…

Notice that in order to make the enhancement functioning you need to enable RSDAMIN table’s parameter RS_SPO_DEL_ALL_DATA to value ’X’.

To review all the details about this functionality see following SAP Note:

1864773 – Customer Connection: (NW 730SP11): Complete deletion of data from Semantic Partitioned Object (SPO)

In BW version 73 the enhancement is coming within Support Pack no 11.

The enhancement is coming via Customer Connection program which enables to implement customer ideas regarding SAP software improvements. See overview of this and other programs of how to influence SAP with your ideas here.
