Things to consider while retiring BWA for moving to BW on HANA

  • Analyze the followings and re-create after moving to HANA if needed. The first one will
be captured while running the BW checklist tool (SAP note 1729988)
    • BWA only infocubes
    • BWA snapshot indexes (Query as infoprovider)
    • Explorer infospaces on top of BWA indexes – if you have Explorer on Blade
  • Negotiate with SAP toward to see if you can get BWA credit toward HANA licenses
  • Check with your BWA hardware vendor to see what you can do for your existing BWA boxes
  • Check the contracts with your BWA HW vendor
  • Check the contracts with the vendor who is providing BWA maintenance
  • Readjust documents for monthly outages, emergency outages, upgrades, backup-restore, on-call etc to remove BWA steps (and replace with HANA where necessary)
  • Prep your data center if you’re not removing BWA machine(s) immediately
  • Inform your network team since BWA has dedicated network
  • Check your DR/HA procedures
  • Run program RS_BW_POST_MIGRATION after the DB migration to remove BWA metadata
  • When you’re testing HANA make sure all BWA indexes were deleted and BWA machine is unplugged

Cheers,

Tansu

Nice recap on retiring BWA when migration to BWoH.

You didn't include the step to DELETE all BWA index data BEFORE or AFTER migration to HANA?

I would assume you do NOT need to delete BEFORE migration using this method:

      >BW >TCode = RSDDBIAMON2 >BI Accelerator >Maintnance functions >Delete All Data for BI Accelerator

Instead AFTER migration use the CL_RSO_BWA_INDEX_DELETE task in the SAP_BW_AFTER_MIRGRTION task list.

      Here is the help documentation:

Task "BW POST HANA MIGRATION; drops BWA indices'
      Purpose:

A BW system running on HANA DB does not reqire BWA indices.

Therefore they should be deleted following a migration to this database platform.

us this task to delete the BWA index status in the target BW system after system migration to HANA DB if the original BW system is connected to SAP BW Accelerator (BWA) and if data from different infoProviders is indexed in BWA.

This task must be used as part of the BW post-mirgration phase.

      Check:

This task does NOT run in check mode.

      Thanks
