ESS performance issue in remote territories

Hi,

We are using ESS Portal with ECC as backend connectivity. The setup is in India.The portal works find for India users. But the users from other location like UK has performance issue and sometimes it gets disconnected momentory. Other web applications runs fine. The network is also ok, compared to the distance. What can be the issue?
