IoT: deviceWISE enables collection of sensor data into SAP HANA Platform
At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, SAP is demonstrating how the SAP HANA Platform can be used to leverage data from “smart devices” to optimize business. In this scenario, refrigeration units used in commercial environments that are equipped with sensors continuously send information wirelessly via the devicWISE M2M Application Enablement Platform. The data is collected, monitored and analyzed using the SAP HANA Platform. For a distribution business, this would let them monitor demand and optimize inventory logistics in real-time, schedule servicing on the refrigerations units proactively, and collect data that can be used to optimize production and marketing via big data analytics.
SAP ESP can be used in this environment to monitor and analyze the incoming data from the smart devices – data received via the deviceWISE platform. ESP can stream data in real-time to live operational dashboards, can be used to generate alerts, or can even initiate actions – for example opening a service ticket when an equipment issue is detected (or even better: when an equipment issue is anticipated!).
