I came across a interesting situation wherein we had deployed SAP Forums and seeking feedback from users.
One of the user asked me “How can i know how many users are using Forums and how many are logged in at any given moment” ?
I broke this question into two parts.
1.How can i know how many users are using Forums
2.How many are logged in at any given moment” ?
I knew that Forums do not show online status like Facebook 🙂 so question no. 2 was answered there and there itself.
For Qusetion no 1. As every manager does i told the user that should be definately possible and i will get back.., i passed on this query to my team.
To my surprise, my consultant told me that it is not possible for a user to find all the users who logged in at least once to the forums.Although an administrator
can find out and publish reports easily. But this was not going to help…I gave them 1 more day to find out..but the answer was the same….
They told me that they had tried everything..
wild ward (*) character etc… but nothing worked.
Now this was really building on me..
Could not sleep that night..
Next morning i said let me try myself….
As a start, i tried the things my develper had told me… no result.
Next, i tried with the string a* and i got some result.
Now i tried b* and instantly understood how it worked….!
Sometimes being away from programming for a long time really works… 🙂
then i constructed a string and fed to that search box… and i got the desired result….!!!
This is the string which worked 🙂 🙂 🙂
Delighted, i informed the user and did one more thing!
Treated myself with an Ice Cream…………….!
