If I asked everyone reading this to raise their hand if they had a smartphone in their pocket, I’m sure every hand would go up. Smartphones are ubiquitous. That isn’t news. What is news is that mobile development is the new normal. I read a survey done by Appcelerator last year that said that “87% of enterprise respondents predict that more mobile applications will be developed than new desktop applications.”

In our business, this is definitely true now. I can’t remember the last proposal or RFQ that crossed my desk that didn’t include a mobility component. Our customers are mainline, conservative companies who want to skip using the SAP GUI and just go straight to a mobile interface to handle the majority of their user interaction. These companies still have mainframes but don’t want to bother with desktop UI.

That is a big change in just the past year and it portends well for the growth of SMP.
