Hello all,

I would like to share my knowledge, which I gained from SIT (SAP Inside Track), 2014. Before getting started with a particular topic, I would like to share my experience on SIT, which was conducted in Hyderabad. It was a great pleasure for me to be a part of SIT. There were many valuable sessions throughout the day for 3 tracks (Technical, Functional and Analytical). As basically I am from technical side, the topics which they chosen are really excellent and presented in a very good manner.

All the sessions conducted consists of entirely new topics, which made me to think out of ABAP. One of the best topics which I got impressed due to the technology and wonderful presentation from Tanmay Hoshing, is ‘SAP - FIORI’ (FIORI meaning Flowers) and luckily that is the first topic of SIT.

Let me share you some of the points in ‘SAP - FIORI’ which I learnt from the sessions, along with the points I collected apart from sessions, which I hope will be useful for you all to get the overview of this topic.

INTRODUCTION:

  • SAP-FIORI is basically a web based tool, which is a collection of 190+ apps.
  • It represents the new SAP user experience paradigm.
  • It offers various business roles a simple, easy-to-use experience for SAP software functions, and works seamlessly on desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
  • It provides enhanced user productivity and personalization for customers using SAP Business Suite on any database and SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA.
  • The apps provided by SAP FIORI offer users the ability to conduct transactions, get insight and take action, and view fact sheets and contextual information.

PROPERTIES:

  • Role based:
    • FIORI apps decompose complex applications into a task-based experience with one central entry point for each user.
    • Based on Roles, the applications will be accessible for each user which makes the applications more secured.

  • Responsive:
    • FIORI apps adapt to all sizes, devices, versions, and channels to provide a common user experience across all channels.
    • Below are the screenshots which shows, how FIORI is responsive based on size of the devices.

FIORI on Desktop:

FIORI on Tablet:                                                                                 FIORI on Mobile:

  • Simple:
    • FIORI apps follow the 1-1-3 experience (1 user, 1 scenario, 3 screens).
    • They know and provide the right context and meaningful data integration.
    • This property makes user to handle FIORI in a simple way with a simple and flexible UI.
    • Below are the screenshots which shows how FIORI is simple to use.

         Travel Request App:

  • Coherent:
    • User experience with apps that speak the same design language. This implies
coherence for common activities as well as coherence for your brand.

  • Instant value:
    • With a low barrier to adoption, enabling customers to adapt and users topersonalize.

SAP FIORI ARCHITECTURE:

  • Architecture of SAP FIORI consists of following blocks.
    • Web Client (Smartphone / Desktop / Tablet)
    • SAP ABAP Netweaver
    • SAP Business Suite
    • SAP HANA
  • SAP FIORI apps are HTML5 apps which call OData services to ERP backend.
  • Below is the screenshot of the FIORI architecture which shows how the blocks are interconnected with each other along with the sub-components of each block.

CONCLUSION:

  • SAP FIORI increases productivity by empowering managers and employees to get the job done anytime, anywhere.
  • Easy implementation, seamless rollout to different devices, and ease of use improves time to value, lowers risk and reduces total cost of ownership.
  • There are many advantages of SAP FIORI which makes FIORI more reachable to users.
  • As it is web based application and it has attractive UIs, FIORI consumes some time to load UIs and then to transfer data to server.
  • Hence to overcome this disadvantage, SAP has planned to create a platform in which all the UIs are inbuilt which takes very less time to load and at the end only transferring of data takes place.

Thanks & Regards,

Imran Khan.
