HANA History Memory Usage Data

Many questions and discussions are floating around on how to check History Memory Usage used by Hana Database. Managed to set up RCA Hana DB analysis on SOLMAN 7.1 and did a comparison between Memory Overview + Resource utilization with Hana Studio rev7.

SOLMAN RCA (database analysis)

Once configure, we can easily obtain the History data by inputting the timeframe, as the data are stored into the BW infocube in solman.

Database -> Host Memory

Database -> Hana Service Memory

Database -> Resource Usage

Hana Studio Rev7

In Hana Studio Rev7, we can check memory usage info via Memory Overview (which provide present data) and Resource Utilization (you can set the timeframe but data is not in tabular format, you need to browse on the graph to obtain the usage data)

Memory Overview

Resource Utilization:

As we can see, RCA in Solution Manager organize history data into chart and graph, and data is in tabular format which provide us a clearer picture as compared to the data presented by Hana Studio. It is much easier and extremely useful for solution architect or administrator to forecast the memory growth in future.

      Hi Nicolas

      I like the effort that you put into this blog. Setting up a SolMan system is not swiftly done and setting up the integration with a HANA instance can also take some time (especially when you do it for the first time).

      However, I cannot actually follow your point.

      Actually you show us that SolMan as well as the HANA studio can generate diagrams based on history memory usage data.

      Both varieties can be setup to show a certain time frame.

      Both options provides graphs that show absolute numbers and relations between the numbers.

      So, what's the actual added value in your scenario of using SolMan here?

      Why is it better in your eyes?

      The HANA version is certainly better looking 🙂

      Hi Lars,

      Thanks for the feedback. Above just shown ways of getting HDB History Memory data (so far that i knew). Agreed with John that HANA version looks good, but lacks of clarity as compared to Solman, unless HANA Studio has the features that allows history data to be exported into spreadsheet, which present in tabular and more organize format.

      Using query bellow you can export the data

      select index,used_physical_memory,free_physical_memory,server_timestamp from _SYS_STATISTICS.HOST_RESOURCE_UTILIZATION_STATISTICS order by server_timestamp desc
