There are only 2 weeks left until Mobile World Congress 2014, are you ready? My team mate Milja Gillespie wrote a helpful blog titled Tips for Mobile World Congress. If you are attending the event, this piece is a must read.
Will MWC be the event where fashion and wearables merge? With the current rate of adoption, it could be the perfect storm of time, market influencers and adopters. There was a ton of coverage on this topic at CES earlier this year and perhaps more to come before the end of the month.
If you already have your own wearable, I suggest you pack it because you never know when you can connect it to a demo. And for the fitness conscious, you can track your activity across the 240.000 m² of floor space. I spent a few days at the Fira Barcelona last month for an SAP Field Kick Off Meeting and tracked my movement using my Nike FuelBand. You should know that I did a lot of sitting during sales training sessions, so please do not judge my fuel point score too harshly. Here is a screen shot from my mobile app reporting.
Good Walking Shoes
While fashion and technology way merge at MWC 2014, I recommend prioritizing comfort over style. Just to be clear, there are 240.000 m² of floor space. to explore and the halls are open for long hours each day. A good pair of walking shoes will come in handy and enable you to take advantage of all that the show has to offer. They will also help you to get out of the conference hall faster at the end of the day to get home. This leads me to my next suggestion.
Download Travel Apps
I will leave getting to Barcelona to you, but once you get there, be prepared to navigate your way amongst the 72,000 other people flying into Barcelona for this show. Since the days are long, the last thing you want to experience is a difficult time getting to your dinner or hotel room. Let this photo of a taxi line from 2013 give you an idea of the lines. Again, pack good walking shoes, and download travel apps. I used HAILO a few weeks ago and there are many drivers in the city that use this common taxi service. Note: You should be able to speak basic Spanish when the driver calls to confirm your location 🙂
There is going to be a ton of activity and excitement at the show, so get ready and make sure to include booth A30 in Hall 6 in your plans. Looking forward to connecting with you all at the end of the month.
