A. Prerequisites – SAP standard VS SAP IS Retail

1. In SAP standard, you need plant view definition to process PO or movement of the article on the plant (like good receipt, good issue).  Plant data on the article master data need to be maintained.

Technical point of view:

MARC – Article / Plant

MARD – Article / Plant / Storage location

2. In SAP Retail, plant view is not sufficient. Article listing is needed.

Listing is the operation that links the article to the assortment.

What is an Assortment?

SAP definition: “An assortment is a SAP Retail object to which materials are assigned (a process known as “listing”).”

Actually, an Assortment is a group of articles assigned to a group of sites. But it is not necessary true.

Why not true? Because, each plant have his own assortment also.

The real assortment definition depends on the client organization. It can be a group of articles like “PASTRY ARTICLE” or a group of sites like “LUXURIOUS SITE”. So we need to come back to the SAP definition:An assortment is a SAP Retail object to which materials are assigned (a process known as “listing”).” – the true SAP definition, assortment is just an object to link different other objects.

Technical point of view:

MARC – Article / Plant

MARD – Article / Plant / Storage location

WLK1 – Article / Assortment

WRSZ – Site / Assortment

WRS1 – Assortment

B. Listing

The listing operation is the creation of a link between an article and an assortment (creation of  WLK1 line).

To create an assortment, use the transaction WSOA1. Trough the transaction you can assign a site to the assortment. WSOA2 – to add a site to the assortment.

To list an article, use the transaction MM42 / Listing view. For mass listing use WSM3.

Assortment as  “Site group”:

Case 1:

  • Let assume the Retail Company have two kinds of distribution site, small site and big site.
  • Let assume there are articles sold only in a big site and that all articles sold in a small site are available in a big site too.

You need to create two assortments, ALL_SITE and BIG_SITE via the transaction WSOA1. Next step is to assign all sites to the assortment ALL_SITE via WSOA1 or WSOA2 and to assign big sites to the assortment BIG_SITE.

To assign an article to all the sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment ALL_SITE.

To assign an article only to the big sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment BIG_SITE.

Case 2:

  • Let assume the Retail Company have two distribution brands, Catering brand (XCatering) and Retail Food brand (XFood).
  • Let assume there are articles sold only in XCatering sites, articles sold only in XFood sites and articles sold in both.

You need to create two assortments, CATERING and FOOD via the transaction WSOA1. Next step is to assign all XCATERING sites to the assortment CATERING  via WSOA1 or WSOA2 and to assign XFOOD sites to the assortment FOOD.

To assign an article sold only in a XCatering site (like Sandwich), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment CATERING.

To assign an article sold only in a XFood site (like chips), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment FOOD.

To assign an article sold in both site brand (like soda), go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the both assortment CATERING and FOOD.

Assortment as  “Article group”:

Case 3:

  • Let assume the Retail Company have different sites, all sites sell the same core articles, some sites sell pastry articles, some site sell wine articles.

Capture d’écran 2014-01-28 à 6.20.02 PM.png

You need to create three assortments, CORE, PASTRY and WINE via the transaction WSOA1.

Next step is:

– To assign all sites to the assortment CORE via WSOA1 or WSOA2 (as we define, all sites sold article from the core assortment)

– To assign sites with Pastry department to the assortment PASTRY.

– To assign sites with Wine department to the assortment WINE.

To assign a core article to all sites, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment CORE.

To assign a pastry article to sites with pastry department, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment PASTRY.

To assign a wine article to sites with wine department, go on MM42 (listing view) or on WSM3 and choose the assortment WINE.

    Hi,

Case 3 can be easily done by using an Assortment grade in Article master and grade of a merchandise category in assortment.

I believe, instead of using WSM3, It is better to assign the merchandise categories to assortment.

Since you are mentioning about listing in SAP IS Retail, the most important part Listing Procedure is not discussed.

If you slightly modify to cover these points, then the documents will be more useful.

    Regards,

    Amit

      Hi Amit,

      Thank you for your comment.

Case 3 is not really relevant to assortment grade (as you can see, a site can sell Wine without Pastry) but for case 1 is relevant.

You are right, listing procedure are an important part. I just not wanted to begin with the customizing part of the listing procedure (important to understand) in a first document.

The document is more a general view of “How listing work” with a technical point of view.

But, it can be a well idea for a next document.

      Thank you,

    Hello Yohan,

A brilliant article. But I have few basic questions as a beginner. As you said that we need to go to MM42 in Listing view, we need to choose the assortment. I created an assortment but m not getting an option to choose the assortment in listing view? How do you choose the assortment? Do u have any screen shot which can make it easy to understand.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Jove

      Hi,

First of all, you need to create you assortment WSOA1.

On MM42, for the simpler listing (without any check), choose the std release procedure 02.

      Check New listing and execute.

      Regards,

      Yohan

          Hi Jove,

In above reply, please understand as Listing procedure and release procedure. Listing procedures are set of checks which you want to perform before creating listing condition for a site and article.

In the Listing view of article master, you have a provision to choose listing procedure for Store and Distribution center. Listing procedure 02 mentioned above is unqualified listing where the listing will be done without any check.

          I hope this is clear.

          Regards,

          Amit
