I can’t believe another year has passed and my favourite event of the year - Mobile World Congress - is only a month away. This year’s event will again be held in Barcelona from Monday February 24th through Thursday February 27th. If you’re going to be at the event, we look forward to seeing you at the SAP booth. For those of you who won’t be able to make it to Barcelona, we have a fantastic lineup of content that you’ll be able to follow from your office desk. This is my third MWC, so I thought I’d share a list of tips to help you along your journey.

See some amazing demos

Wow! SAP is pulling out all the stops this year, showcasing some very cool mobile and Internet of Things demos. If you plan on getting down to business when you arrive, I suggest you make the SAP booth in Hall 6 (6A30) one of your first stops. Take some time in advance and prepare a list of the technologies and people you want to see. And let us know if you’d like to set up a meeting in advance.

Take Mobile to the Cloud - Securely

Let’s face it, mobile is ubiquitous. And every company needs to free up their enterprise data to be accessed from a mobile device. But security – especially in the cloud - isn’t a given and needs to be thought through carefully. While at MWC, take the time to come and meet with our Mobile Enterprise product teams. We’re showcasing some great technologies to help your business go mobile while handling the risk. Our Mobile Secure solutions include a mobile device management tool, a mobile app security tool, and a mobile content management solution – all available in the cloud too.

Use Social Media to Connect with SAP and other MWC Attendees

The SAP team onsite is always very active on social media at the show, keeping you up to date on what demos are happening, technologies being showcased, and when speaking sessions are about to start. The official Twitter hashtag for this year’s event is #MWC14, and you can follow us directly at @sapmobile. For a more personal angle be sure to follow @carolyn_coad and @miljagillespie too. Our Twitter feeds will provide the inside scoop on what’s happening, but you can also visit our special MWC website to get the latest information about SAP's Mobile and Telecom solutions. You can watch interviews recorded onsite with mobile thought leaders from around the globe including SAP executives and customers. Visit the SAP at MWC website.

Watch your wallet!

Now on to a more practical tip… My best advice to anyone traveling to Barcelona is to beware of “El Ratero” or pickpockets! Barcelona is the pickpocket capital of the world, and what event would draw the most pickpockets? Hmmm, how about the one that draws 72,000 people with mobile devices? It’s a pickpocket’s dream. Every year I have attended the show I have talked with several people who had wallets and devices stolen. It’s the one event where its OK to wear your backpack on your front. And yes, they will unzip the pockets on your bag while you are wearing it to snatch your smartphones and tablets. Be careful!

It’s a Zoo - Download the MWC App

If you’re on iOS, Android, Windows or any smartphone for that matter, there is a MWC app that can make your life easier. Download the app to tap you into your myMWC account, helpful schedules, venue maps and other useful information. Remember the most important booth to visit is Hall 6 6A30!

And last of all, have fun on your journey! I look forward to meeting you there and connecting with you online.
