Q&A Looking at One Source of the Truth with SAP Design Studio with Molson Coors

Question & Answer from today’s ASUG webcast with Alexandre Rivet Papagiannidis a SAP Mentor

Alex works at Molson Coors and I have asked him to blog about his webcast

Q:  Have you considered BI Dashboards (Xcelsius).  If so, what was the decision to go with Design Studio instead of it?

A:  The long-term vision for Dashboards is included in Design Studio; used Dashboards in past but maintenance was tricky.

Q:  Does your company have BPC 10?

A:  Looking into BPC and applying to architecture – not something own

Q:  If so, have you thought of using the EPM Excel Add-in instead of Analysis for Office?

A:  not applicable – not using EPM

Q:  Have you tried Lumira or

A:  Not now

Q:  Predictive Analysis?

A:  Demand is not there now; see potential – need to walk before run – see potential with Lumira but want control before deploying

Q:  On SAP BW, you are able to create ETL to get data from different sources. My question is why using DS and not BW to extract data from other sources?

A:  Data Services for connecting and replacing a service had in house – other colleagues may be able to answer.

Q:  When you mentioned many BI tools, is it within BOBJ or are there are other tools outside of SAP BOBJ

A:  SAP shop – strategy was initially to use SAP tools – BEx tools are still there, and moving towards BI strategy w/ BusinessObjects tool due to mobility demand.

Q:  Are you using Explorer for any of your users

A:  BusinessObjects Explorer has been implemented; sales oriented organization.  Tried to find best use case for Explorer without success.  Still want to use / deploy with HANA.

Q:  How do you manage / triage end-User requests for new Dashboards & Reports…? Is it funded by Molson’s Centreal IR dept, or charged-back as a service to the line-of-business…?

A:  It has evolved; trying both options.  For any project want the business to fund it.  Going back to IT has resource – making a hybrid of both.  Make sure it has value for company

Q:  Do you schedule/run many publications within your environmetn or has that reduced with the strategy you have outlined.

A:  Web Intelligence – deployed for sales organization – still publications that are automatically run.  Still do some in-house but because of process of data need to make sure received all the information -> cannot automate as process is working out.

Q:  What is your “goal-time” for turning around End-User requests for new Dashboards & Reports though to Draft ro Final-Delivery..? (We find if you aren’t “quick” enough, then end-users start downloading raw-data and freeware tools/excel, etc).

A:  Dashboard demand is low – 2% – want it to grow – currently don’t have a timeframe

Q:  Have you thought of using Analysis OLAP vs Analysis  Office?

A:  Analysis for OLAP > premium replacement for BEx Web – currently bandwidth is not there & want users to focus on Analysis Office as Excel use is high

A:  OLAP replace for BEx Web.  Training implications.  Focus is Analysis for Office.  Business downloads to excel.  Simpler for users.  Not excluding OLAP but Office is focus

Q:  Are u utilizing Dashboard 4.0 at all or just utilizing the Design Studio?

A:  Dashboard is not part of toolset being used

Q:  Have you come across any major Xcelsius feature that you/user wamted to see in the solution but couldnt delievr with design stuido?

A:  Not using Xcelsius now

Q:  Are you using any Transient providers to report on ECC data?

A:  not yet

Q:  You have mentioned that choosing the right tool for the right users / needs was the key success factor.  Was the challenge defining those rules or adhering to those rules

A:  Adhering is the challenge

Q:  are you using universes to source your dashboards/reports or bex queries?

A:  Still have 3.1 to decommission – it has a universe on BEx query – everything else is BICS
