I wanted to share my experience on attending the SAP Inside Track 2014 in Singapore #SITSG. This was a free event organized by SAP Community volunteers (SCN) at the SAP Office.

I came to know about this event 2 weeks before the event date and when I signed up only 2 tickets were left and luckily I was able to get in. Next year I will be watching closely for this event. It is usually after SAP TechEd Bangalore. This is a session where people share on their experience and what they have learnt from SAP Tech Ed. There were also interesting presentations from SAP Partners, SAP Mentors and SAP employees.

What I learnt from SAP Inside Track Singapore:-

    1. SAP Lumira Personal edition can be downloaded from SAP for free and that it supports 3D images and models.

An interesting example that was showcased by SAP was how SAP Lumira was used to show the 3 dimensional view of a building and the pipes inside the building able to sense the temperature of pipes. All these could be viewed by rotating the building and zooming in and out to view the pipes in different colors which denoted different temperature patterns.

    2. The present architecture of SAP is going to change significantly with the evolution of HANA. Eventually there will not be as many separate boxes like CRM, ECC, BW etc... There will be a SAP HANA box, the HANA Cloud Platform and the end user will access something like SAP Fiori (collection of apps with simple to sap functions that can be used in a smartphone) on top of the cloud platform. This was the vision that was shared by Vishal Sikka CTO of SAP at SAP TechEd Bangalore.  Yes this vision will take time to materialize but it is somewhere down the road.

        What is SAP Fiori?

From SAP website "SAP Fiori is a collection of apps that represents the new SAP user experience paradigm. SAP Fiori offers various business roles a simple, easy-to-use experience for SAP software functions, and works seamlessly on desktop, tablet, or smartphone."

Then the question that was asked by SAP Mentor Jansi was How are we going to align our skills with what the changing SAP technology... Something definitely to think about.

    3. There were several other presentations from SAP Partners and the key words that I kept hearing was Big Data and Mobility and several use cases of how Big Data can be leveraged smartly through sentiment analysis etc. to send targeted promotions for customers and if the promotion really worked etc.

In short it was quite inspiring to meet and talk to different people and be in these sessions. I will definitely be attending this event again next year and I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the event organizers and to the presenters who shared their experience and knowledge.
