The Data Geek Challenge as a Learning Tool
I was encouraged to get involved here on the SCN by the awesome SAP Lumira team. We initially produced the following video for a grade in our accounting course related to the Data Geek Challenge and we wanted to share our work with you:
After watching so many entries, we wanted to tell a fun story that incorporated our use of SAP Predictive Analysis and Lumira visualization. Unfortunately video production schedules never take kindly to the college schedule, and even though we would have liked more time to memorize our lines and put some polish on our final product we had a BLAST making this. If you would like to know more about what we would change, view the video in Youtube and click the “Show More” area for a full list of director’s notes!
We missed the contest window this year due to the structure of our class, but we learned a lot from this process. How to plan an engagement, determine a relevant data set, clean the data, load and analyze the data, and finally publish the information in a way people can relate and understand. Hard skills and soft skills combine to make one great integrated business assignment. Our college is currently pitting the various departments (Markting, Supply Chain, Accounting, etc.) against one another, and I think pushed a few weeks forward in the semester this could create a lot of great contenders for next year’s challenge.
So thank you to SAP for making your software available academically. These projects and contests will hopefully help us develop skills we can use in our job hunt, and perhaps we might come up with some new and creative ways to use your software!
