Keynote IT Support in China SAPPHIRE events
Begin from Year 2011, we had the 1st SAPPHIRE Now event in Beijing. The keynote support is quite different from any keynotes support in previous events (FKOM, TechED), there is not only presentations, but also lots of demos to be shown to our customers.
It was a challenge for me to handle synthesized/complex IT issues for the preparation. I need to quickly understand the landscape of the demo, overcome the limitation in the venue (network performance, network ACLs to backend), meet all the requirements from speakers, come up a proposal with speakers including backup solutions to avoid any potential issues may have.
What impressed me deeply is the SAPPHIRE event in Beijing on the year 2012. We shown the mobile application ‘My Runway’ on iPhone. The backend data is in real public cloud, and the challenge is to fight with the occupied internet bandwidth, and to fight with the signal interference with the mobile devices from attendees to win the better performance to make the demo runs smoothly. The other pain is with the enrollment of Afaria, the ‘Auto-Lock’ setting of iPhone is mandatory, which will cause the device to re-connect the wifi after unlock. if the device establishes the wifi connection >2 secs, the demo will be failed, since on the stage, when the speaker unlock the device, the demo will begin immediately and the iPhone screen will be projected at the same time. it won’t allowed more time to establish the connection of wifi.
We have prepared 2 iPhone devices with same configuration and same App installed. They have been connected with same (hidden SSID with pure internet), one is on the stage, the other is in speaker’s pocket connected with Apple TV at the backstage. In case the one on the stage fails, the projector will be shift to Apple TV. Finally, the demo went very smooth. Although the demo took 4 mins, everyone can hear the heartbeat for each others at the backstage.
In this year 2013, it’s the 3rd time for me to supper the keynotes. This time, we are facing the challenge for China goes up a notch when demo owner throw in the need to localize everything on the demo.
The interesting thing is I helped together with demo organizer to make the translate the database field of some demos and send back to successfactors to make modification. Although some demos has not been shown finally, we are happy to enjoy working together to handle the tough staffs.
Keynotes support is the most one has full of sense of accomplishment for event support. I love it.
