Supply Chain Magazine (France) – 29/11/2013 published an interesting story about SAP customer Givaudan using SAP HANA to determine chemical compliance for fragrances.

Givaudan, the world’s leader in flavors and fragrances, manages a portfolio containing over 500,000 products classified as dangerous. “We have to make sure that our products, throughout their lifespan, comply not only with national and regional rules, some of which can change every week like in China, but also with specific industry rules established with our competitors and with the requirements dictated by our customers,” explained Adrien Gonckel, CIO at Givaudan. Each fragrance can also use up to 300 different ingredients, multiplying the number of possible combinations to check to ensure the product is fully compliant. Until last year, the verification process took up to three months. Since the beginning of the year Givaudan has been working with an SAP module running on HANA. Backlogs have been cleared and the company can now verify compliance in real time. The solution will be extended to the flavor business in January 2014.
