openSAP has been identified as a successful approach for SAP to rollout innovations compared to other platforms and filling the need of keeping pace with rapidly developing world of information technology. openSAP training's based on public cloud gives steroid effect to the online training concept bringing easy and flexible distribution of hands-on landscapes to external training participants. The first openSAP training based on SAP Cloud Appliance Library (SAP CAL) - SAP HANA training is offered to inspire students to work in the SAP ecosystem and to build new talents of the future. As SAP CAL being the controller for the Cloud based landscape provisioning, it is channeled for distributing openSAP HANA training landscape which is based on Amazon Web Services (AWS). SAP CAL based HANA landscape is designed to support the training - Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA started on 24th October 2013. As the registration shows more than 25.000 students enrolled to this online training, our landscape distribution channels were enabled to support this large amount of instances, resulting in a powerful backbone to support this offering.

Landscape Details: openSAP HANA training landscape is designed with a 2 Virtual Machine (VM) approach. The first VM is a Linux machine consisting of the HANA Server with the training content where as the second VM is a windows machine which contains HANA Studio and HANA Clients. Students can connect to the Windows Terminal Server (WTS) and access the training content from the back-end HANA system after configuring the landscape connectivity between the virtual machines.

External training participants need to have an AWS account as pre-requisite to create CAL accounts in SAP CAL Test Drive Center. Similar training landscape consumption model is available for internal and external students, where as infrastructure costs will be charged to their internal cost-centers and external AWS accounts respectively based on the up-time of the landscape. With the strong support of SAP CAL development team, openSAP team managed to achieve the following:

  • ONE Landscape Appliance for internal and external students
  • Landscape costs 0,95 € per hour for the up-time
  • openSAP specific SAP CAL tenant for internal students and separate SAP CAL tenant for each external student via. SAP CAL Test Drive Center (TDC)
  • Automatic registration to the openSAP internal SAP CAL tenant
  • QGP Validated and Approved Appliance
  • Automatic GTS check based on the SAP CAL TDC registration
  • Account creation and landscape instance creation in one single click

In parallel to the HANA training based on SAP CAL, another openSAP training following the same path - BI 4 Platform Innovation and Implementation underlines the successful offering made by openSAP team. All the openSAP training courses are published in the openSAP page and the SAP CAL based openSAP training landscape appliances are available in the SAP CAL Test Drive Center along with different free trial offerings.

More openSAP trainings based on SAP Cloud Appliance Library will be available in the future. So stay tuned on the openSAP page and get expertise on the new SAP innovations.
